Ive been thinking about the possibility of planting cricket bat willows along a stream running through some of our grassland. Any advice about site requirements etc?

WET WET WET!:001_smile:

This was told me by Nick Wright, father of Oliver who submitted the post above this.

We have around 500 CBW's on a rotation, harvesting and replanting 30-40 each year. The plantation is spread over water meadows used for grazing cattle also, so all the trees within the area the cattle can get to are guarded with weldmesh.

If you do decide to plant, be prepared to rub the shoots off up to 3 times a year, if the shoots are allowed to lignify the subsequent marking in the timber will devalue the trunk.

Easiest tree ever to plant though, should get a return within 20 years, although we have had willows reach the required 60" circumference within 15 years.

Good Luck
