Hello people. I’m keen to dip my toes into the waters of chainsaw carving. I have a number of larger chainsaws which would be ideal for the ‘blocking’ down of stumps before the intricate stuff begins, but want to use a little light saw for the detail work, before I switch to my Makita die grinder. Anyway, I can’t justify the £399 for an Echo 2511 WESC with the 1/4” sprocket and carving bar incase I’m totally useless at it, and it becomes a very expensive pruning saw. As such I’ve elected to buy a Mitox 270 CSX which some describe as a clone of the Echo 2511. At £160 it’s a fraction of the price and if it ends up as a pruning saw if I suck at carving, so be it. If I turn out to be any good and enjoy the carving I can upgrade to the echo later. My question is, is there a 1/4” sprocket compatible with the Mitox 270 CSX that I can pair with a small carving bar from either Sugihara or Stihl? Any help appreciated.

Hi, I have a mitox 281mt multi, and want to change the chain on the pruner. From what I can see it needs a 10” 0.05” 3/8 chain. so I got a new chain...(silly me) I didn’t count the links, and bought a chain with 40 links. But the old chain, now counted, has 39 links. It does seem to fit, but the chain is not smooth. I’ve not run it up yet, but just turning the chain by hand seems to get a little stiff after about 5cm moving the chain around. Is this normal for a new chain, or do I need to swap it for a 39 link chain? Some help would be grateful. Thanks

Howdy Agimos! Just a quick one to rack your brains and harvest your opinions please? I am contemplating adding a small, cheapish saw to my collection, specifically for pruning task, light tree work on my property and to bridge the gap between my ratchet loppers and my smallest other saw, a Makita / Dolmar DCS4301 at 43cc. Initially I fancied an Echo 2511WES for its diminutive size and low weight. Two things put me off slightly, the £400 cost, and reports on this forum of issues with the smoothness of the chain in wood. Setting my sights a little lower, and slashing the budget required in half left me looking at three ‘big name’ entry level beginner saws all under £200, as listed below: Stihl MS162 @ £155.00 Husqvarna 120 II @ £170 Echo CS-310 ES @ £199 and the ‘off brand’ wildcard, in the image of my initial choice, a smaller saw aimed it appears at CS-2511 WES buyers; Mitox 270 CSX @ £199 also. Your thoughts and experience with these saws would be greatly appreciated ladies and gentlemen.
