Does the ht lead click onto the sparkplug? Just wondering if the spring has come out so therefore doesn’t make contact with the plug

I’m no chainsaw professional but done a lot with 2 stroke dirtbikes etc, bearings can always be measured and replaced with another brand providing they are the same spec in terms of rpm and load tolerance etc, I would try to find a matching bearing from another brand or model that is the same size and gaskets can be traced and cut out of a sheet of gasket material

yeah the clearance is less the issue its more that looking at the drawings of all the different bar mounts the oiler/tensioner hole always looks a bit far forward or backward. do have a 20 inch stihl bar from my 038 that i could try, can get adapter for 12 to 8mm aswell. now i've thought about it a bit.

you are most likely complete right, can always just hold the bar level ish before tightening bar nuts

recently got hold of my dads old saw, a mcculloch 610, damn heavy and quite old now but sounds very different and it just has a special feel about it that new saws dont have. anyways i need a new bar for it and from my research it used d176 which is an 8mm slot. most bars now seem to be 8.2mm and have the oiler hole further forward but whilst looking at the oregon bar mount pdf i saw d009 which is a 9mm slots but has the oiler hole in the right place so my question is quite simple really, could i just put so 1mm spacers (8mm id, 9mm od) over the bar studs and do it that way or is there a better option?

agree big time that proper maintance will probably make a bigger difference than oil a vs oil b providing that theyre both synthetic and a known brand...

well i wouldnt say screwing up but ethanol degrages rubber at an increased rate so fuel lines, carb diaphrams etc wont last as long but another thing is the ethanol attracts water aswell which makes stale fuel even worse as it could have absorbed water if it wasnt in a completed sealed container

i run motul 800 at 50:1 with super petrol so as to only have E5 not E10, used to use esso synergy supreme as it had no ethanol content but that changed in september of this year

i have an 038 super, have you ever done one? and is there good gains to be had with them? need to check compression on it and make sure piston and cylinder is all good as cant get oem spares for them anymore before i think about booking with you anytime soon

I have an early Stihl 038 super with a frontal chain tensioner, I am trying to find a new chip guard for it (no. 1118 656 1500) but I have had no luck sprocket cover no. Is 1119 648 0400 which also returns no joy when searched so in essence I am either looking for a new old stock chip guard or a suggestion for a part number to a newer sprocket cover that will fit and is still available any suggestions appreciated

STIHL 038 av super, runs great and has just had a service (carb strip and clean + new plug), brand new bar and chain that hasn’t even cut yet but may put it in some wood just to dial in the tune and check everything over. Honestly could be something I would consider, may put an ad up on eBay or something as around me atleast I know of zero places that do servicing on / stroke garden equipment. Only problem being is that with repairing other peoples saws there’s the time expectation which could be a problem trying to do it along side school.

hi all, just thought some people might find this interesting, i live on a farm and my dads a mechanic, i've been working on two strokes/engines in general for a couple of years now and finally took the plunge to start making use out of my knowledge rather than using it to spend money (dirtbikes cough cough). Anyways, first saw that i'm flipping, a stihl 038 av super. Bought for £80 as had been sat in a shed for years but had compression, spark and fuel so i bought it. flushed all old fuel out and cleaned carb through, new sparkplug and some fresh fuel i got a pop after 3 pulls. reset to factory settings as wouldnt start and it fired straight up, took some fettling to get the idle down and response times up but runs sweet now. new 20" oregon versacut bar and chain went on along with a new break handle as old one was broken and dodgily repaired Hoping to sell for around £300 looking at previous ebay sales. will be going up on ebay in a couple weeks time as im about to leave for holiday.
