  1. Hi, I'm looking for an experienced freelance climber to cover occasional days in Mid-Wales. My workload is increasing and is mostly around Builth Wells, Brecon and Llandeilo. Send a DM if interested or call for an informal chat: 07450470787 Cheers Colin
  2. Looking to buy an 8ft or 10ft tipper trailer. Ideally with sides. Based in mid-wales. Cheers Colin
  3. I'm happy with how it turned out inn the end.
  4. I'm trying to get an idea of how much it would cost to rent some shed space or a small unit on a farm for storing a chipper and trailer.
  5. the base wound probably not from pruning though.
  6. Viewed a job today where the client wanted work doing on three beech to let more light through and reduce leaf fall. I suggested it might be better to take out the middle beech of the three rather than make big pruning cuts on them all. Then I saw that one of the outside beech had what look like old pruning wounds around the main stem. What are the long term health prospects for this wounded beech?
  7. Hornets 1 - Humans nill. This is one we felled previously without knowing hornets were in the tree. We walked away in the end and moved the trunk into the woods where they wouldn't be disturbed.
  8. There were hornets in a big oak we were trying to cut down last summer in West Sussex. We had to leave the tree alone because they started dive bombing us with a chemical that signals to the others where to attack. Amazing creatures. UXHR5373.MP4
  9. Well, after some consideration I decided to go with the pillow case/washing machine method - worked a treat!
  10. Amazing! Does the sap just dry and flake off or something?
  11. What do people do to remove spruce sap from lanyards and prusik cord? Completely gummed up today to the point of being inoperable.
  12. I know Chris Boddington has regularly advertised for hand cutters (coppicing) on piece rate in the past - 07793017181 Leckonfield Estate sometimes need an extra cutter and a bonus you have arborist tickets - Neil 07768 618565 Steve Marston employs fellers - 07803144112 John used to do a lot of coppicing work and hardwood felling but not sure if he's still going - 07572172721 Good luck, Colin
  13. Great advice, thanks. The owner has named the cottage Silver Birch, so removing its isn't an option. I'll advise her about the cycle of extra maintenance and progressive reductions and she might change her mind. If I go ahead,I'll take less of the tops out than my line showed. It would be a shame to damage it. because they're very fond of the trees. Cheers Colin
