  1. Sorry guys just getting to grips with technology I volunteer with a charity and have just purchased a Sthil 220C saw with a 300s battery but even just processing timber the battery from fully charged only lasts about 20min. There was no info with saw that batteries should be fully charged and drained etc before use so are we doing something wrong or is this about right? We daren't attempt a tree felling even under 300mm Appreciate any advice/comments
  2. Bit high but worth a try
  3. Indeed and all of these things have been considered
  4. Paddy branches 15-25 feet up....not dangerous at the mo as we would have bitten the bullet and paid for them to be dealt with...
  5. Ah Canal Navvy we have been told WRG Forestry not available at the mo...had to have a local farmer push over 5 very dead oak recently with his JCB...miniscule roots on these trees with a 3 foot pls girth...probably why they died!
  6. All Many thanks for all your comments. I tried a new bar which negated the issue for about 15 mins but then had the same problem. I bit the bullet at that stage and put it in for repair. Turns out the oil feeder pipe was hard restricting flow- I look at the oil flow after each refuelling stop and there was oil but clearly not enough! Hopefully sorted in next couple of days. Dave
  7. Some members might be shuddering at the thought but apart from "don't consider it" are there any recommended suppliers for such a device? I volunteer with a canal trust and have just started to survey a new section prior to restoration. A number of trees have dead branches but although we have trained volunteer chainsaw operators none of us are trained to climb and the branches are higher that our pole saws. Some areas we could get a scaffold tower in but others the ground isn't flat enough. WE are considering rope saws but as a charity using publicly raised funds we don't want to waste our money. There are over 20 tress that need such attention so paying is out of the question due to limited funds ....so...does anyone have experience of such saws and/or recommendations? Obviously we will be cutting at an angle and not under the branch! Thanks in anticipation- Dave
  8. Thanks Mark...its a Sthil bar and only recently replaced so I will double check the clamping and oil system. Thanks
  9. Ratman...its does not . Thanks Dave
  10. Stubby Many thanks for the info and gen on quote tab
  11. Hmm I suspect the chain would not run properly and heaven knows how many times the bar cover has been off but...worthy of investigation...thanks for your thoughts Dave
  12. Indeed that is my concern...trouble is its simply a screw through a block and into a spigot on which the bar sits. I have tried putting the spigot and one end before screwing the thread through it and tied at the other end before screwing the screw through it but neither works. You can tension the chain initially but as previously mentioned within 5 mins its slack Its a very simple system but I supposed if its not assembled correctly it wont work correctly. Problem is no manuals avavialbe for this or the 360 (which apparently is the same set up.)
  13. Stubby Thanks for taking the time to reply. The method you mention is standard practices for me but sadly since replacing the components, due to a stripped bolt thread, the chain simply becomes too slack after 5 mins work. Dave
  14. I volunteer for a local charity and have Lantra award for felling small trees. Problem is I only use the saw a few times a year so not fully familiar with more detail maintenance. Recently I had an issue with the chain tensioner (on this model is simply a screw, guidance block and spigot). I replaced all the parts but I am still having issues after about 5 mins of cutting the chain is visibly slack. Happens with all chains I use. Does anyone know if there a specific method of replacing the tensioner parts on this model or offer advice on what the problem may be. I could put the saw to local dealer but trying to save the charity money. Thanks for your assistance Dave
