Have not used the above for some months but I find the saw now starts on choke on full revs, blowing white smoke. On engaging the throttle it dies down and idles normally. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the above about 3 years old. Recently been blowing white smoke and black oil through muffler and stopping. Cleaned carb and muffler. I noticed that there are no carb nor muffler gaskets on this model. Is this correct please?. Will the situation become better if I fit the appropriate gaskets?. Thanks everybody for reading.

I have a cheapo bought in Lidl and it has worked well for a couple of years. However recently after a few minutes use the grinding wheel makes an abnormal vibrating sound. I have cleaned everything out, turned wheel around but no change. This is the second wheel I have used and there appears plenty of life left in it. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks for that. The saw is a friend’s that had not been used for many years and my pal recently tried to start it but it would not run. It was full of old fuel which I dumped and I then I cleaned the carb ( Warlbro HDA 119 ) and fitted a new kit. To get the carb off you have to dismantle the handle which is why I thought it might be something to do with the throttle cable or because of the potch in getting the carb off there might be a leak in the boot area.

Just fitted carb kit as I was unable to adjust carb properly. Now starts first time but will not come down from high rev.. Have I fitted throttle cable wrong or is there an air leak?. Any help will be appreciated . An old model but little used.

Do I have to take the handle off to get the carb off. Anyone answer please?

Just been given this saw which is now running quite well after ditching old fuel and giving it a wash and brush up. There doesn’t seem any access to an arrestor screen or perhaps no arrestor screen. Can any of my more learned friends fill me in on this please?

I have sent an email to Stihl about this problem and I am aware of the YouTube listings. It seems a pretty inherent problem. Stihl should put a caution on their saws which use this linkage. I don’t expect anything by way of a successful result but will keep you posted.

Has anybody had problems with small Stihls eg 180, 170 in not being able to switch them off. In other words, the O position fails to action. I know what the problem is in that the plastic switch bar unseats itself so that the metal spring is unable to make the appropriate connection to stop the engine. This switch arrangement is on quite a few models and Stihl must be aware of it being a design fault and also a safety issue but still must sell these chainsaws in their thousands without seemingly not bothering to modify the system. Would be happy to learn of your experiences.

Any of you boys know the material that the above is made from?. It seems to be the the same stuff on the Mac and Poulan air filters. Thanks.

I have a number of Stihl saws but bought the above as a light use alternative. I have found the air filter system to be totally useless and after very light use have cleaned out the carb which was full of crap. Is this something which other members have found and can anyone suggest a remedy?

I do have Stihl bars and chains for these saws I was just trying to utilise the Oregon bars in a more useful way. I think I will now knock this on the head and stick with the appropriate equipment for the saws. There are, however, 16 inch bar and chain combos on line “ to suit Stihl “ where it is obvious from the comments that the chains do not fit in the way I described. Thanks to all

The bar is from a Florabest electric, another from an Einhell electric, another from an Einhell petrol. The no’s. are 8K 112364 91, 9L 112364 91, W9 112364 91. I know the chain shown needs sharpening. Thanks for the replies so far.

One of the bars is from a Florabest electric chainsaw, one is from an Aldi ( Einhell ) petrol saw and the other is from an Einhell electric saw. The chain shown is for illustration only and I know it needs sharpening . The bars are stamped as follows:- OREGON 8K 112364 91 , OREGON 9L 112364 91, OREGON W9 112364 91. Thanks everybody for replies. Please see attached fotos with an Oregon 16 Inch bar and Oregon 16 inch 57DL chain. The tensioning tang cannot travel far enough to tension the chain. The same happens with the 170 that I fitted a side tensioner to. Any advice re suitable bar will be welcome. It’s not that important but I have 4 Oregon 16 inch bars lying around doing nothing and these saws can take apparently 12 to 16 inch bars.

Further to my request for advice yesterday. I have some Oregon 16 inch bars which I can fit to a Stihl 170 and 211. Both saws have side tensioning. However the chains 3/8, 57 DL won’t tension as if they are too long. Am I missing something or just being dumb?. Any help would be welcome.

Can’t seem to fit an Oregon 16inch bar to my 211 although it fits my 170. Any help will be appreciated.
