  1. I’m new to this site, and apologize if I’m in the wrong forum for this question, but need some guidance. I live in central TX USA. Lightning struck a good sized oak next to our house. It provides much needed shade in the summer, and I hate to cut it all the way down. The strike blew about 20 foot of bark off of one side of the tree, took a big hit about 2/3 the way up the trunk and splintered it pretty good. Is there anyway to salvage the tree cutting the trunk below the crack and maybe letting it grow back? Thanks for the time.
