  1. Nice one! My 261 seems to manage the oaks that I've hacked up once they've fallen (although it definitely has its flaws). The Stihl top handles seem to get a decent write up pretty much everywhere, 200 or 201tc seems to be a big question? They seem to be much more popular than the 540s.
  2. Totally fair. It's a private estate in Ireland, that hasn't been managed at all for possibly 30 years (about 60 acres). The house is set above a large proportion of the woodland. A lot of the larger oaks and sycamores are obscuring the views from the house. As its completely surrounded by large (unmanaged) trees on all sides there is quite a lot to do, not just crown reduction. Bit of a mixed bag. I suppose my main interest is getting a top handle to start that can handle the larger stuff in the bigger trees. Cheers
  3. Great, thanks Steve. Do you have a preference? I suppose the biggest consideration with the big saw is the weight? Over time I’ll amass an arsenal of them I’m sure, but do just need one for now.
  4. Thanks Mick, that’s really good to know. The majority of the stuff will be larger limbed oaks that will need some crown reduction. Would it cope with this in your opinion? Very grateful for the knowledge.
  5. Legend. Thanks mate. Sounds decent, I’ll definitely look into it. Kinda just assumed that the 201/540 were the best saws for climbing.
  6. Cheers. Is it in the same league as the other two (genuine question)?
  7. I’m in the market for a new top-handled saw. Price isn’t really a consideration as I’m happy to pay whatever, if something is substantially better. At the moment I’ve got an MS261C which is great, but annoys the hell out of me with the hot starting issue, so I’m less inclined to get another Stihl saw (but will if the consensus is they are better than the Husky). It will mainly be used in a large oak/mixed woodland. I suppose the real question is, should I just bite the bullet and get a t540xp, or is there something else I might consider? Cheers!
