  1. Hi guys Felled this maple today. Any use to anyone and if so what's its worth?? Easy access based in forest Row, East Sussex
  2. Cheers. I'd probably ideally want to stack brash a bit to make it safer/easier to work?
  3. Yeah I'm thinking couple of guys per day. Fell, cut to length stack cord and burn or chip waste as we go then like you say move timber in summer
  4. His terms of low impact is not heavy machines that will turn the ground to crap and lots of ruts etc I think
  5. Hi All Recently went to look at a wood for a customer who has around 3.5 acres of woodland. Around 80% of the wood is Ash, which is pretty much all diseased. The chap wants it to be low impact as well as not being to costly. What would you guys recommend the best way to tackle this? Day rate for couple of guys Felling and burning/chipping brash? Equipment wise I only have a fordson major tractor and quad bike. I was thinking perhaps a couple of guys Felling and chipping brash, then leaving cord where its cut, then at the end of it hire in a tractor and timber trailer off a local farmer I know to shift the cord to roadside. Look forward to hearing your thoughts Liam
  6. Hi all Hope your having a good weekend. I'm toying with the idea of possibly buying a Ford County for forestry work. What are people's thoughts?? TIA
  7. Cheers. I got Felling license on owners behalf
  8. Cheers. At the moment I'm cutting, stacking and burning by hand, no machines Have a quad and 4x4 I can use to move timber as well as a fordson major. I've cut 3 different sizes. Some in 2 metre, 5ft and some smaller of cut bits. Yeah of someone could chip the brash that would be ideal. I'll speak to a local farm I know that do biomass who may be interested
  9. 0.70 hectares. Not sure how many trees, would it be worth me walking through and numbering them? I've probably felled between 30-60 trees already
  10. Evening all Got the go ahead to clear all trees affected by Ash dieback The deal I have with the landowner is that I cut everything that's affected/dead and burn the tops and then keep all the wood in return. I shall be keeping a load of ash cord for myself for next years firewood. I am just curious how people go about taking on similar to what I have and how they make their money from it? As there is more than I will probably have room for, what is the best way to make money from the surplus wood? I'm fairly new to taking on my own forestry stuff so still learning. Any tips, advice etc would be much appreciated Liam
  11. Thankyou. I don't suppose you have an example as to what I need to put etc?
  12. Hi I would like to start doubg woodland management plans, but not sure how to do them and how to set it out etc Any advice would be great Currently working a wood Felling ash die back so would like to do one for that. Also is there any grants I can apply for?? Many thanks
  13. Most of the wood I get is either arb waste or wood I get from some small bits of land I manage in exchange for the wood. Got a nice load of ash dieback to fell so probably going to hire my mates processor for that as all pretty straight stuff
  14. What splitter do you use mate?
  15. Doesn't help paying rent on a house every month, van insurance still high etc
  16. Hi folks Just curious who here purely runs there firewood business using log splitters? I currently run an oxdale on a small fordson major aswell as a oxdale towable splitter. I sell around 100-200 cubic metres of firewood per winter. Do want a processor to speed things up but they are alot of money for someone who's only 22 lol Let's see your setups.
  17. Hi guys Looking to purchase a winch to put on my fordson major tractor for pulling cut timber in the woods. Cheers
  18. Would be mainly for pulling cut timber to where we want it as access isn't great in places. Think the major is about 48hp
  19. Hi guys I'm looking at possibly buying a winch for my fordson major tractor. Have been offered a 10 ton cookes winch. Would this be any good??
  20. Cheers all. Will contact some of the suggested places. Do most people earn there money off the wood, such as selling logs etc rather then getting paid to do the trees?
