  1. Hi Any ideas on this little thing? It’s on a piece of hazel deadwood and soft to the touch. Thanks
  2. Can someone I.d this fungus bracket growing on a large beech stump? Thanks
  3. Thanks for the reply’s, yes I’ve had a few pieces myself to try and turn a few bowls out of. I work for a local authority it all goes into recycling for their green waste target its criminal the amount of timber that gets wasted
  4. Any ideas on this I’m seen it before but can’t remember for the life of me. Thanks
  5. My dad came home from his regular walk with the dogs and has brought this leaf home and asked if I knew what it is, he said it’s covered in red berries and is about 10ft tall. I’ve checked in my Collins book but can’t see anything that’s similar.i know it’s not much to go of with one single leaf but any help appreciated! Thanks
  6. nptc is a life long qualification but they do recommend a refresher course every 3 to 5 years as good practice and depending on how regularly you are using the skills you have learnt from said course. Defiantly worth doing I’m my opinion as it’s teaches you the basics in safe cutting[emoji1303]
  7. Maple was my first thought looking at the bark and wood colour[emoji1303]
  8. Yeah that was my thought too fingers crossed, I’m keeping it in a cool storage room for the time at the back of my house for now so il see how it goes. I’ve got a few good pieces and a nice straight trunk of the timber to work with so plenty more to go at![emoji1303]
  9. The tree had been laying in a garden blown over for about 4 months before I cut it up for use. As for knifes I’ve just got some cheap ones of eBay (not sure of the brand) and to be honest I wouldn’t recommend them as i snapped two doing this bowl so il be looking for a good set soon enough myself. Yeah I was thinking of danish oil as good all round finish[emoji1303]
  10. Just finished my first bowl, pretty happy how it’s turned out. It’s a little uneven here and there but I ruffed it out my my saw and when at it with my knifes and a 80 grit wheel on a grinder! so I was just wondering what would be the best oil/varnish to finish it with? Thanks
  11. That looks nice I’ve got a nice piece of main trunk I was thinking of planking up and a few smaller pieces I’m going to try to get some bowls out of!
  12. The tree picture is not the tree I cut there was another one in the garden that blew over when we had storm Denis a few months Back. The customer had already got rid of all the limbs and Burnt them. The tree pictured is still there[emoji1303]
