Fry or grill to get a nice crispy outside then stick it in a butty with black pudding, fried egg, bacon/sausage if required, choice of HP or ketchup and it'll keep you going for a few hours. Climbing might be a bit slower mind.

What are the targets and have you got the means to test extent of sound timber?

I did the same at 55 when they kicked me out. Got a good few years climbing in before the body finally stopped me doing it full time. Now been just over a year doing inspections/surveying for the same people and finally called a halt to doing the emergency works call outs earlier this year. Still rather be climbing but have to make do with the odd day on personal stuff.
Give it a try, I wasn't as fast in the tree as some of the younger guys but could give them a hiding on the ground.

Are you looking to get into forestry or arb? If arb consider climbing and aerial rescue to open up more opportunities with smaller operators. As always a clean driving licence including towing is useful, especially if you've got Cs on there.
Good luck.

Happily suffer the shits at that price
Even my local brewery pub has gone from £2.50 to £3 a pint now, sounds unbeatable.

LV for me, has gone up twenty odd percent from last year but still cheaper than many others and they've been good. They also do good multi car rates and take the number of vehicles you have access to into account. A dash cam also seems to bring prices down.

That looks good. Anyone used one for heavy duty stuff (like caked-on, oily sawdust)? The YouTube videos are mostly of women and poofs blowing dry concrete dust.

I've had two M300s since 2012 and never felt the need to 'fettle'! What do you want to do?
The grease nipple on tube that sticks through the belt housing was broken at the thread in the bearing so I need to get the bearing off to try and extract the thread then replace the tube and grease nipple. Think mine's a 2011.
Thanks for all the responses. It does exactly what I need and I want to look after it so trying to make sure everything's as it should be to maintain in properly.

About to start fettling the new to me M300, any tips from owners re belts and bearing removals before I mess something up would be appreciated. I'm a Haynes manual mechanic rather than natural aptitude and available detail seems thin on the ground.

I think it all comes down to doing a site specific, day-specific risk assessment that weighs up the type of operation with the weather conditions. There can't possibly be one maximum wind speed and one 'working at height'.

Sounds like the way to go, thanks. I'm assuming this vintage doesn't have sealed bearings but still an unexpectedly high level of greasing.

Thanks Dan, mine's a 2011 which says grease drum bearings daily, I'm thinking of using lithium but thought it best to check what works for others.

Any Jo Beau M300 users recommend a specific grease for the bearings or other maintenance tips? I've found the blades torque setting at 60Nm through the search but not much else. The Netherlands manual I've found online seems a bit light on specifics of oils and lubes but might just be my language skills.

Good to hear you've got somewhere sorted, hope it all works out.

Tree officers round my patch still require an application for over the boundary pruning if it's protected.

Looks like Lowe Maintenance in Settle is fully booked for the next couple but you could ask about cancellations.

You can always apply to the local planning authority for permission to fell even if it's not your tree, if it's not protected or in a CA they will tell you. If they say they have no objection you will still need to agree a course of action with the tree owner but it gives you ability to start negotiation with 'I've checked and you can do what you like'.
