  1. We bought a new house in July - there is a large copper beech in the garden. Will it lose its leaves in the winter? Thank You
  2. Yes makes sense. I will have to blow them quite a long way - but cannot think of a way round it - apart from raking then collecting. The problem with the latter is some leaves tend to become buried in the gravel and this eventually creates compost for weeds! Thank You for your help.
  3. I have recently bought a new house surrounded by mature deciduous trees. Part of the large drive is gravel. When the leaves fall this autumn, I had intended using my leaf vacuum (I think it can also be used as a leaf blower). Is it possible to use a leaf vacuum on gravel without sucking up the gravel as well as the leaves? Any suggestions would be welcome! Thank You
  4. Thank you for your prompt reply. I will certainly replant the tree in a bigger pot. Should I wait until autumn ,or is it time the tree went into the ground? I thought the miracle grow would be enough - can you suggest another way of supplying nutrients.I have used my nettle concoction ( nettles steeped in water for 2 months - very very smelly!).
  5. Tree leaves have gone very yellow - as if it was autumn - but still only mid August. Any suggestions? Help!
  6. The tree is is now in full leaf - but the leaves aren't horizontal for want if a better word - slightly droopy - very green, no brown marks. Also the thick trunk, 4 inches diameter at the base , 4 foot tree is covered in leaves - such that it looks more like a bush than a tree. Should I remove the lower leaves? I friend has suggested I also remove the growing tip - is this wise? I water everyday and feed with "Miracle Grow" about once a week. Finally ,whilst in the pot is this tree likely to flower? Thank You
  7. Thank you I will follow your advice - I would hate to lose it. The other Horse Chestnut trees in the area seem to be ok.
  8. About 5 years ago I planted a conker in a large pot. I now have a beautiful Horse Chestnut tree still in the pot. The shape and thickness of the stem and general health of the tree attract comment. It stands out amongst other ornamental trees. I have been warned however that soon the tree is likely to die due to fungus attacking such trees, Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
  9. Thank you. I will check the rental agreement and report back.
  10. Thank you. I somehow managed to send my last post twice. This is a helpful answer. I am not sure of the qualification of the Tree surgeon.
  11. No part of the tree overhangs his land - in fact he has to cross a brook to get to it. It was totally on my rented land. The tree does block some of his light however.

  13. Thank you. I take it that I am not responsible - I didn't invite him onto the land and stopped him from doing further damage.
  14. I own a small property and rent a small strip of land adjoining my garden from the council. There are a number trees on the land. Recently my neighbour turned up unannounced with a tree surgeon and started to lop off branches.I immediately asked him to stop which he did. The once attractive tree now looks a bit of a mess. I suspect that there may be a tree preservation order on the tree. Who is responsible for this damage? And surely the tree surgeon should have checked before proceeding? Thank You
