    Had my first go at milling this weekend home made mill needs a few alterations as the boards were pretty rough, but it didn't fall apart and nobody was hurt so that's a step in the right direction lol hopefully a couple of pics will follow?

    not very big and been dead a long time, maybe 2ft diameter at the base and theres only the trunk to go as ive already taken what was left of the branches off? not sure if the wood will be worth milling but its just something to practice on really as my dad wants them gone and luckely hasnt had his woodburner fitted yet! lol

    just out of interest and after reading this thread, my dad has a couple of dead oak trees in his paddock that i was going to fell and mill with the alaskan. i have no idea if bats are resident or not? also whats a felling licence!? is that something that professionals need? i no the trees arnt under a tpo as my dads checked. but if i were to fell them could i/we get in to trouble? he is just inside a national park also and i no hes having to jump through hoops and get planning permission for anything! including a wooden playhouse that he built for my nephew and even raised beds to grow veggies! i obviously dont want him getting in to trouble! lol

    I bought a grinder when I bought the saw, can't remember which it was tho? I think there was a mini, a maxi and an ultra? I went for the middle one lol and yeah I wasn't complaining about price sorry I was just wondering if the two had a difference or is a ripping chain just a ripping chain, is all I meant I was thinking the quality of materials used and keeping an edge etc but you've explained that, so thankyou I'd rather pay for quality from a reputable source than chance evilbay Cheers ant

    Is there much of a functional difference between the granberg and the Oregon? Apart from price? Sorry if I should be asking these questions on the website lol

    Also I was thinking that removing the dogs would allow me to put clamp nearer to the power head and take some stress off the bar? But if everybody else manages ok I won't bother lol just that a saw a thread about a cracked bar Cheers ant

    Thanks mate, the bar that came with it is the rollomatic which is a sprocket nose I think? The mill, I have made myself to start with and I just built it to fit the 48" bar without pinching the sprocket at the nose. I think it should give me around a 42" cut which should be enough for now hopefully lol would you suggest I need to make an auxiliary oiler fur that length? Thanks for your reply Ant

    Hi all, new here. I've just treated myself to a new ms880 to mill up some wind blown hardwoods I have access to and to hopefully make a few table tops etc I got the saw with the 48" bar and chain in the standard .404. Problem is I'm struggling to find a ripping chain for it? Also is it worth going lo-pro? And what bar and chain would you reccomend? Is it just a matter of changing the drive spocket as sombody on another forum said I wouldn't need to? (Not an arborist forum tho!) lol so thought I'd ask you guys that actually KNOW what you doing:thumbup: Also can I do it with the standard chain that came with it, just to get feel for it or would that be a total waste of potentially very nice wood?     Fair play! I plan to build one in the near future, problem I'm having is sourcing parts in the uk? Did he get most of his parts from America like the band wheels?
