  1. How much kit can you fit in ?

Will the side handles take the weight of being lifted in via hiab ?

I have 4-5 saw plus a capstan winch in mine usually.

Side handle would bend I reckon but it has runners for forklift on the bottom so maybe a couple of slings and then lift in with the hiab.

  2. I'm looking for a new tool vault to lift onto the 7.5 tonner to store a couple of saws and climbing kits.

Does anyone have any experience of either of these?

    Cheers

These are the same - just different paint!

I got the biggest one from Rock Machinery and for the money they are fine.

There are tougher security boxes out there but you will have to pay a fair bit more.

  3. Hi - I did a charcoal burn using a normal ring kiln with some rather damp soft wood last year - I don't quite remember the species but I am pretty sure it was a pine. Anyway everything I have read and been taught says softwood does not make decent charcoal - And the result - brilliant charcoal of course! Yes it is very light and slightly more brittle than hardwood but the burn was nice and hot and fast as you would expect and the yield was also decent compared to hardwood. I have also had good results with birch so you should be OK.

  4. We are now a dealer for TRACKER and can offer the complete range of TRACKER stolen vehicle and machinery recovery devices.

Car Tracking, Fleet and Van Tracking Systems and More - TRACKER

We are specialising in the forestry and tree surgery sector and can supply and fit tracker devices to any vehicle or machinery UK wide.

Tracker devices can be fitted to all sorts of machinery and vehicles including: chippers, trailers, tractors, quad bikes and 4x4's.

Tracker is not the same as other devices that rely on GPS / GSM technology only.

Tracker uses VHF tracking technology to generate signals that can transmit clearly even through steel containers, lock-ups, barns, warehouses or underground car parks.

All 52 UK police forces are equipped with Tracker detectors in vehicles, helicopters and all major ports. Tracker devices can also be tracked in Europe.

The police will use the signals to accurately locate your vehicle or machinery and recover it fast.

Tracker is available in different models to suits the type of machinery or vehicle being fitted.

Tracker devices offer dual technology and signal jamming detection to overcome criminals trying to block the tracking device.

Tracker devices offer wired or battery installation. The built in battery lasts up to 5 years.

Tracker devices also offers geo-fencing, motion detection and fleet management.

Tracker devices start at £207.50 + VAT including installation plus £99.17 + VAT annual subscription.

Having a Tracker device fitted could reduce your insurance costs. For example the NFU offer a 12.5% discount on tractors fitted with Tracker.

We are committed to helping the forestry and tree surgery sectors fight crime and will be offering discounts to all Arbtalk members.

  5. Something I was looking at closely too in finding something better than chains for my applications, and found these that have a few links of chain to attach straight to grab hook or slider, and a needle fitted.

    Product Details - Products

Coming up with Treadlight Forestry as a Dealer, who I'm certain are on here?

Is there a way to link them into the Thread?

    Eddie.

    Hi Eddie,

Yes - We are a Portable Winch dealer and can supply all Portable Winch accessories.

I have not tried the rope choker but have just order one to use with my PCW5000 winch so I can report back.

They retail at £55 + VAT so more expensive than a chain choker but they are a fraction of the weight.

The other consideration is the minimum breaking strength is 7100 kg so OK for smaller winches but not really suitable for anything too powerful.

    large_694.jpg

  6. Also if you have a trailer with more than one axle you really need a wheel clamp on each axle. Otherwise it is possible to lift an axle using an adjustable tow ball and drive off with the lock still on the axle that is in the air!

  7. The latest guidance from FISA is as follows:

Gloves.* The type of glove will depend on a risk assessment

of the task and the machine. Consider the need for

protection from cuts from the chainsaw, thorny material and

cold/wet conditions. Where chainsaw gloves are required,

these should comply with EN 381-7.

    Taken from here:

    http://www.ukfisa.com/assets/files/safetyLibrary/FISA-AA-301-Petrol-driven-chainsaws.pdf

You could argue that the safety features on a modern saw means that protective gloves are not required.

  8. What I like most about Uniforest winches is the fact that they are constantly being updated to incorporate the latest innovations in forestry winch design.

    55Hpro.jpg

This means that there are lots of really useful little features incorporated into each model to make them easier to use and more productive.

For example Uniforest have introduced a new 'smooth' cable across the range. This cable is 1mm thinner for the same strength making it lighter and easier to use. It is also less likely to snag or kink on the drum.

Other features found in the range include:

    Folding guard:

    folding_guard.png

    Chainsaw, chain and tool holders:

    chainsaw_holder.png

    chain_holder.png

    pickaxe_holder.png

    Multi-plate clutch:

    multiplate_clutch.png

While these features makes Uniforest winches very up-to-date in terms of design they are still extremely good value for money.

I was genuinely surprised when I found out how much these winches actually cost given the massive increase in capability and productivity they provide.

Just as an example we are able to provide the Uniforest 35M (3.5 ton pull, 70m cable, PTO shaft) for £1500 + VAT + Delivery.

We will also throw in 2 x 2m choker chains and 2 x sliders.

We are able to provide similar deals across the whole Uniforest range: 3.0 ton - 8.5 ton, single and double drum, mechanical and electro hydraulic.

If you are thinking of getting a winch for the first time or updating your old winch then please get in touch and we will be happy to provide information, specs and prices.

    Thanks

  9. Of all the machines I sell this is the one which has surprised me most.

Before I saw a PCW5000 in action I didn’t know I needed one. Now I have one I don’t know what I would do without one! It has quite literally changed the way we work.

    DSC_0312-1024x681.jpg

For example in thinning we used to work our way down a row felling into any gaps and reluctantly getting a Tirfor type out when ever something got stuck.

Now we set the PCW5000 up at the start of the day and assisted fell everything meaning nothing gets hung up.

    DSC_0313-1024x681.jpg

The PCW5000 is just so much easier to setup and operate than a mechanical winch.

The 50cc engine takes all the hard work out of winching.

1000kg pull is plenty and with a couple of pulley blocks you can get 3000kg pull out of it.

You can run any length of rope on it. It also has good line speed.

This makes it great for extracting over long distances, up slopes etc.

    DSC_0309-681x1024.jpg

We have found it invaluable on so many jobs: thinning, extracting, wetland work, assisted felling, windblow.

There is an amazing array of accessories for the PCW5000 from pulley blocks to skidding cones, choker chains, anchor devices etc.

Made in Canada, CE marked, 50cc Honda Engine.

The PCW5000 is priced at £1260 + VAT.

If you are thinking of getting one or just want to learn more please get in touch.

  10. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of using one of these 1500kg forestry trailers for the first time.

    DSC_0001-1024x681.jpg

I had it hooked up behind our AGT835 and it made a great combination.

They are European built and very good quality.

The key thing is that being a small trailer it does not compromise the manoeuvrability and go-anywhere capability of the AGT835.

This meant we could use it on a nature reserve where a bigger set-up would simply not have been allowed.

The thing that most impressed me was the crane. It had great lift and was also quick running off the tractor hydraulics.

    There are three models available:

    1500kg Trailer, 3.3m crane, 310kg lift at 3.3m. Price £5500 + VAT

    3000kg Trailer, 4.7m crane, 370kg lift at 4.7m. Price £7500 + VAT

    5000kg Trailer, 4.7m crane, 370kg lift at 4.7m. Price £8000 + VAT

Optional extras include trailer drive, winch, power pack, brakes.

If you are thinking of buying a trailer then please drop me a PM or give me a call and I am sure we can work out a deal.

    Many thanks

  11. Hi all,

Just a quick post to introduce ourselves.

We are a small business based near Ruthin - North East Wales.

For a number of years we have been working as woodland management contractors specialising in the management of sensitive sites such as wildlife reserves and private woodlands.

During this work we have picked up experience using a range of low impact forestry machinery.

We use this experience to find and field-test high quality forestry machinery which we then make available to the UK market.

Our mission is to enable more woodland in the UK to be brought into better management by equipping forestry and woodland workers with the very best machinery available.

Everything we sell carries a CE mark.

We provide a full support and parts service for every machine we sell.

As part of our initial product line up we are able to provide:

    AGT alpine tractors

    Uniforest winches

    PCW3000 and

    PCW5000 portable winches

    1.5 ton – 5.0 ton forestry trailers

We will be adding log splitters, firewood processors and saw benches in the coming weeks.

We plan to be extremely competitive on price and will be offering exclusive discounts to Arbtalk members!

So if you are thinking of purchasing any machinery do drop me a PM, call or email and I will provide you with prices and any extra information you require.

    Many thanks
