Cheers good sir. I'm pretty certain it's just a straight swap of the clutch drum and adding the sprocket. Assuming 5105.

I went for the Makita DCS5121. Checked various parts lists, both Dolmar and Makita, and the 5105 seems to have all the same parts in the clutch area - except for the drum and sprocket.

Much appreciated. I think, but not certain, the clutch drum/sprocket/bearing (best to be safe) i need is from the PS5105/6100 if it helps.

Probably one for Mr Shavey this. My new toy, DCS5121, comes with a spur sprocket. Is it possible to change/convert this to rim sprocket?? I'm pretty sure it is but the oregon info doesn't seem to mention the newer Dolkita models. I could of course be looking in all the wrong places. All info greatly appreciated.

That's what i've had to do.
  8. The daft thing is, with all the Supermarkets, they all have a 'Trading Law' department. They lay down the internal rules of what the stores can and cannot do to be compliant with the Law. But geared in a way to maximise sales. The issues you guys have been encountering are probably down to the local branch manager, who in reality, is only interested in stacking shelves.

I can understand how one could get carried away wanting more of these bad boys. No tree is safe.

Well, gave it a run out today, and that is my response. Well happy. All earlier advice much appreciated.

Well, one happy little bunny. Ordered Sunday night, arrived lunchtime today. Can't complain about delivery like that. Only had a quick 'play' with it - DCS5121, and i must say, i'm well impressed. Well balanced and doesn't feel as heavy as i was expecting, no doubt due to the balance of the unit. Starts easy too. Will be putting it to work back end of the week so will know more about it then. Happy with my choice though.

Deed done. Thanx all for the helpful advice....and the easy ride in not trying too hard to dissuade me. Ordered The Makita DCS5121. Too good an offer to resist.

Many thanks for your response. Confirmed my options - but not which one. Drats. I'll be cheeky and ask, how does one go 'red'?

I see what you mean about Germany. Serious price difference

He won't. A 16" bar would be more than adequate, it's just that the offer of £360 for the 5121 is very good. Cheaper than most shops are selling the EA4300F38C. Or do i go Dolmar PS42* ?

Thanks chaps. Seems i was on the right lines then kit wise. Must admit i am a bit of a brand tart when it comes to tools but sensible enough to know that even the 'best' brands occasionally produce a lemon.

Hi Chaps. New boy here with yet another of those which saw is best to buy questions. Not a professional so don't need to look at all the toys on them shelfs. got the odd tree to drop - safe open land, but mainly cutting up lots of old stuff and/or trimming wayward low hanging stuff. I looked at the usual Husky and Stihl ranges, and all the countless arguments as to which is best etc. Thought i'd narrowed it down to either the Husky 435 or Stihl MS211 However, being a Makita power tool fan i had to have a look at their offerings. Pretty much decided now on the Makita EA4300F38C. Seems to tick all the right boxes, but. and there is always a but. The DCS5121 can be had for only another £20 more. Value wise, it seems the 5121 option is a no brainer. The question is, would it be a bit on the large/heavy side for occasional use?? Cheers
