  1. Thanks for the replies all. TBH I was hoping i could reap the benefits now and replant for my kids to reap the benefits again, sounds like that was a bit optimistic . I didn't realise there was an anticipated shortage. I always pass Thetford forest which is nearly 50,000 acres of mostly pine, it always seemed so abundant here .
  2. There seem to be a few Oak and Ash trees that have self seeded in the Pine.
  3. Hi All, I have been offered about 23 acres of woodland, the land and standing timber (about 60% pine 40% native broad leaf). The pine was planted as a crop around 35 years ago, the broad leaves are older, but around the same height as 35 year old pine. To help offset the cost of the land I was looking to sell the timber and replant with 100% native broad leaves. As this is the first time I have done this I do not know if there is any value in doing this or who to approach? I was hoping you guys and girls might be able to give a bit of advice? The timber is split into approx 5 acre segments with access tracks around all 4 sides. The site has direct access of a road. The site is near the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire boarder. I hope the above gives sufficient information. I have also attached an image to give you an idea. Thanks Chris
  4. Sorry, if that's the case its definitely worth a punt! Glad to hear the planners near you work with you, not against you.
  5. Only problem with the above is the Location and or site plan need to be at a recognised scale 1:100/200/500/1250/2500 with a scale bar, building and site boundaries (both yours and neighbouring). I dont think any of the free sites will show a lot of this, and i think paint/word will be very difficult to get it to a scale although users ability will affect this. The planners wont validate an application if the plan doesn't meet these requirements. Pumpy is correct, if you (assuming you are the owner) have an OS from the sale of the land you can just photocopy that.
  6. Hi, I use centremapslive.co.uk I just paid £32 for a 2.6ha site. That was for an AutoCAD file, not sure if a pdf would be cheaper. I think there is a minimum charge of about £11 per map, but obviously depends on how big your sites are. You draw a box around the area you want and it gives you a price before you order.
  7. Hi, Sorry, this doesn't really answer your question but is there an industry or perhaps insurance standard you need to meet based on BS EN 471? Again sorry a very dull topic but we had a similar conversation at work as we visit building sites. Chris B
  8. Hi All, Just to put my 2 pence worth in as a "consumer" rather than a professional. Got to agree with theflyingscotsman on this. Unless a company has an easy to find and use website with obvious contact details and examples of their work I either don't know they exist or move on (probably sounding quite lazy now) and which works on mobile, a page that takes an age to load or is difficult to use on mobile is swiftly going to find my thumb reaching for the back button. When I need a specialist the first thing I do is Google "profession + county or nearest major town/city" and see what comes up. I usually look through the first 6-10 results and judge them based on their website. Does it look professional and is it easy to use? Can I easily tell if they offer the service I require? Do they have examples of their work? Are they really local, most people know their surrounding STD codes so a phone number can quickly tell me if they are local or not. Most people I know use Google in the same way. Chris B
