  1. there was no sapwood on the seat an backrest, but yes all rotted off over the years and it did take a lot of sanding.
  2. Kev, the timber is really old and well seasoned, all the cracks are natural and it is very stable, I have secured with 200mm timber screws that have been plugged and sanded plus lots of oil. regards Bert.

  4. Hi all this is bench number two in brown oak, I would like to sell to help fund some more carving tools what price do you think I should be asking? Bert
  5. It is in 3” English oak, the seat and backrest are mortice an Tenon jointed into the sides glued and screwed with 8” hex head timber bolts and plugged with oak cut of flush and sanded. Bert.

Thanks for the positive feedback chaps I appreciate it, I started off with a couple of tree spirits and mushrooms, in-between me and my son made a couple of bench seats of which I will try and post some pics when they have been oiled. I have a cedar log about 5f x 24”I am tempted to have a go at a tiki but not sure yet. In reply to Acacia I am not sure how long it had taken as I was experimenting with different tools, I tried an air die grinder with not much success, but found a v carving chisel and angle grinder very good, still a lot to learn yet. Hello all just a short intro from myself, I have been in construction for 37 years and I have just had a go at chainsaw carving so I will be after some advice please, the first question being does anyone use those drill type bits for forming the eyes on their work? If so can you let me know where to get them as the only place I have found is in the Sates? Regards Bert
