  1. Thanks to you both for the info and I will keep both options in mind, i am currently talking with Someone local who might possibly be able to offer me a few days a week on a self employed basis so I will see how that pans out before I make any decisions.
  2. Thanks for your reply at the moment my main focus is to try my best to continue on the path I started on and continue to develop my skills and progress as an arborist, that my not be possible until the contracts from Scottish power are restarted I don't know , but I loved my time in the industry until all this happened so hopefully I will get a chance to continue
  3. Hi everyone hope your all well I am hoping someone might be able to give me some advice as everyone on here so far has been nothing but extremely helpful, at the beginning of this year I left my job to join the the Arb industry as it has been something I wanted to do for a long time and felt passionate about, at first this was a great decision as I loved everyday and was doing very well (according to my employer and team leader), bad luck hit and Scottish power pulled the contracts to the company my employer sub contracted to and everyone else, my employer has since gone into administration I am wondering if anyone knows of anyone in the north Wales or surrounding area that is looking for anyone in my position? I am still new to the industry but during my time with my previous employer I had a mixture of ground and basic climbing experience I have so far completed my UA1 with NPTC and I have my Wips authorisation with Scottish power. I went through the training for my 30/31 and 38/39 about 2 months ago but wasn't put in for the assesment due to my employers financial problems, I have all my own PPE and ground and climbing saw. I hope someone can offer some advice or knows anyone who might be looking for someone in my positions as I am extremely keen to stay in the industry.
  4. Been to a local Ford dealership that sell rangers, been told 9 bar on just one cylinder is fine and nothing to worry about, so going to see how it runs over the next few months and just keep checking the radiator regularly to make sure Think I am going to try a new fuel filter and see if that helps with the starting problem
  5. Yeah been driving it for 2 weeks now, no loss in water or any other head gasket symptoms, it's running fine apart from the iintermittent start trouble, the only reason I am even concerned is just because the first garage told me it was faulty, and that the second cylinder came back a 9 bar As to if they are all low I am not sure, the 2nd garage just said that all the other cylinders were fine at 10bar, are they supposed to be higher than 10? he made out that was what they were supposed to be I have also had the radiator water checked for exhaust gasses and nothing, it came back all fine on that test
  6. The only issue iam having is trouble starting it, it starts fine when cold starting or first starts of the day but after driving it, when restarting it struggles, goes to 500 revs and then shudders and dies, I have to give it a little gas to get it above 500 revs then it's fine, have been told this will be either the fuel filter or injectors as I had the glow plugs checked when the guy did the compressin check It was doing this before the radiator went tho
  7. Hi I recently purchased a 2004 2.5td ford ranger and I am getting conflicting info from 2 different garages so hoping the someone might be able to help Not long after I bought it the radiator overheated, took it to the garage and they put a new one in but told me that water was coming out the exhust when they started it so the head gasket would need replacing, being a little sceptical as it wasn't doing this the days after getting back and no other symptoms I took it to another garage the 2nd garage did a compression test and told me all cylinders were showings 10 bar pressure except cylinder 2 which was coming back 9 bar but this wasn't anything to worry about and the head gasket didn't need replacing........ I am just not sure who to believe as i have asked a few people and some are saying not to worry and other are saying any drop in pressure is serious Anyone have any idea on this ?
  8. Tbh most reviews I have read have been really positive, looking into the engine issues now, it looks like it all stems from a throttle body cleaning issues according to what I have read, and should be indicated by a rough idle and engine cutting out at junctions etc, if it develops the fault it seems to be about £400 to fix so will have to make sure I pay attention to it while idling
  9. Rust issues seems to be something to watch out for with alot of 4x4's i am finding, I had a p reg disco for a while and that had chassis rusting/rot issues hence buying something new now :-(, are there any areas that are prone to rusting more than others or is it just everywhere?
  10. Hi everyone I am after a little advice, I am after a budget 4x4, someone near me is selling a Mitsubishi pinin 1.8 gdi on a W plate so 2000 reg which I am going to view on Wednesday. what are your thoughts on this as an all rounder? will be using it for general work based off roading so nothing extreme, general local travel and towing a trailer. It's up for 1150 and has done around 69,000, any tips on what to look out for when viewing would also be really appreciated
  11. Well not great news on the disco front, the chassis has quite bad rot, guy in the garage said its not really worth repairing , gutted I am selling it for spares if anyone is interested, 1998 discovery 300tdi
  12. Thanks, Been recommended the same guy by a few different people locally so will give him a try, hopefully it's just the brackets and nothing more serious.
  13. Hi guys hoping someone can give me a little info, I have recently bought a 1998 Land Rover discovery 300tdi, I was driving it today on a road with a a few speed bumps, the steering has now become extremely unpredictable and under braking or when I lift if the gas it feels like the back end want to go in a different direction to front end, was difficult to drive back actually I have been told that the rear axle brackets might have rusted through and snapped, is this an expensive thing to have repaired ?
