Yes, that tractors served us well. We just had to add an alternator to it and change a few electrics around so it would power the processor. And I can't argue with less than 20litres of fuel a day when you compare it to our bigger tractors.
Nothing is it! Very good machines! Would you say it's cheaper to run a pto powered processor or an electric one?

We bring the logs in with a trailer then load with our kramer. If the column wasn't in the way it would be the perfect set up for us.
Take a grinder to it good set up though mate! Vintage tractors are the best! Never let you down haha

And best of all, no mobile phone signal!:thumbs:
That is a winner!!

My WP36 at work. I don't do firewood selling, just hire the machine and operator for others to do the firewood thing
That is where it's at, middle of no where, amazing views and no one to myther you!

Been trading as a partnership with my ex for 15 years. Now sole trader with my employees carrying on as before just different name.

Yes it's a 350, a great machine!
That's what we have at work although ours says something like spezial under the s-350 bit so not sure if it's exactly the same model

I'm just a young fella having a bit of craic with firewood at the weekends when I'm not in my full time job. My setup is very basic, doing about 30ton a year from my own woods, with chainsaw, splitter, portable log rack, and a combination of ibc cages and 1m billets on pallets. This is my delivery vehicle for local drop offs near base. She has never let me down yet!
it will out live most modern day tractors that will Rowan haha!

Some neat machines there lads! Joy have you been selling wood for a while or is it a new venture?
-
put up pictures of your delivery vehicles and processors or any other methods of cutting your firewood
-
get friendly with a few local farmers and they might have some blown over trees down fields they want removing and also might pay you to do it as well then you've got the wood as well to sell on.

I'm Current college student and looking at firewood for a secondary income aswell as working for a tree surgeon! Is it worth doing or is it too much hard work and myther? Bearing in mind il be cutting with chainsaw and splitting with an axe! Cheers people! Judging what some of you lot say it sounds like it can be a good source of beer money!

If there was a sure-fire formula all quotes would be the same.
No intention to sound negative, you will find loads of threads on here which suggest anything from time X Hourly rate to 'experience is everything'.
If you are still at college and you 'eventually' want to go SE then just watch and learn from others over the years. Then, grasshopper, it will be time for you to leave the temple.
(If you are not an old git like me you'll have to google that last quote).
Good luck and enjoy your work.
Yeah I've never heard that quote so il google it
-
My advice is to work in the industry for 8yrs then you won't need to ask these questions because you'll know it yourself.
I don't mean to sound facetious so I'm apologise that it sounds that way.
No it's alright it's all advise! But yeah my plan is to work for some people for a bit anyway I couldn't jump in to it that fast! College only teach you so much!
-
I'm guessing you're young so you'll have no credibility. Quote what you think when you go SE. You'll soon find out if you're right or not. I'd doubt anyone on here will help you and to be honest why should they as i dare say they'll have had to learn the hard way.
But good luck and work hard.
Suppose it has too many factors to base it on like how many workers and all that! Yeah it was probably a daft thread to post but hey now I know that it's not something that can be told really!!
-
Yeah I have got a few people I do gardens for I know it's not arb and some will look at it funny but it's getting my foot in the door! And possible clients for the future
-
I know it is a big ask as I get the impression it's what you can afford to charge sort of thing, I just had this thought about what people in the industry think! I respect you all that say get experience for a few years it's defiantly the way! College is good but it doesn't give you experience! Thanks all for your time! Looking fawards to getting in to it!!
-
I am still at college doing forestry and arb but I would just like to find out how people price up jobs, I eventually want to go self employed and also just interested what has to be considered in pricing! Thanks!!
-
Where about's are you mate? I started off doing tree surgery, subbing for different companies and then moved into a new county to live with my misses and found it difficult to find a constant flow of subbing work so have started working on the railways... I'm currently in the process of starting up myself whilst still subbing. Working well for me Good luck with your future.
I live in Cheshire if you know where that is! But yeah I've heard working on the lines is a good job but very challenging!
-
Yeah that defiantly sounds like a good plan il just go with the flow I think get experience in tree surgery if I don't like look into forestry or somthing! Thanks for your time!
-
Yeah guess your right been happy is somthing that's got to be or else you won't want to wake up to go to work at all
-
Yeah it's good gradually make your job list bigger and income better!
