  1. Self employed groundsman looking to fill some dates in Jan - 10th, 12th, 24th, 25th, 26th in or around Bromley, Kent. Happy to travel within reason.
Caffeine dependant 34 year old with chipper and unmarked truck, own PPE, saws up to 661 on a 28" bar. Good plant knowledge. Happy using most tools, hedgecutter, stump grinder etc.. Really good with a blower. Have CS 30,31,38,39. Can climb but wouldn't tout myself as a climber as I'm not into big stuff.
Let me know if I can help anyone?
    Thanks,
    Matt

  2. Hi, my 07 transit has its door ajar light on all the time. When I lock it the horn sounds but all the doors are locked?! I know which door it is as it's slowly been playing up and now nothing. My question is, does anyone know where the sensors are?? I've had the door apart not really knowing what I'm looking for to be fair so need to ask the hive mind. Cheers

  3. The saws you listed are all great.. they're also in different classes and price brackets though..

The 661 is awesome on a 28" or less but depends what you're using it for. The 461 is also, in my opinion, one of the best saws available.

For what it's worth, my setup is 261, 362, 661.

Also check out the husky 365 xtorq. Very well priced 70cc saw

  4. To answer a few questions:

Stolen property will be registered on the local forces system which is searchable. Some forces do use the same systems- Surrey Sussex and Hampshire do which is great

Having sites like this is good. There is also another public national web site called http://www.immobilise.com where anything with a serial number can be added. You can even add photos. The police and places like cash converters then use a linked site that only they can use. I try and promote this where ever I can.

The busted door- yes they should have probably come out and looked for prints inside the vehicle. However it depends on surfaces. Unfortunately it's not like CSI on the TV though. I wish it was.

CCTV is generally useless especially at night but if it's there I will view it because there is always a chance.

When you refer to "hobby bobbies"- a little unkind. If you mean PCSOs that is what I do. I don't want to be a police officer. It isn't a "hobby!!"

With the gear that was recovered last year I instigated the warrant due to the knowledge and the criminals I had in the area I cover, i logged all the property, I did the work in trying to locate the serial numbers of the property, I sat for hours searching all the systems trying to find the owners, i contacted the manufacturers/retailers, I called people who had reported a crime and had property stolen and all they could tell me was "it was an orange chain saw", I contacted the moderators on here to get the spreadsheets of recovered items added as a post, I put it out on social media and had 84,000 see it with everyone from Brighton to Bolton saying I think you have got my chain saw and trying to reply to the 100s of messages coming in. The only bit I didn't do was arrest him.

Yes it's my job and I wanted this thief charged with as many thefts as possible

Yes the law is an ass and it is very frustrating but there are lots of us out there that work our socks off with what we have. It's not ideal. I often throw my toys out the pram on a daily basis due to the frustrations!

I will be leaving this forum. It's bad enough getting a grilling at work but in your own time.. and I don't even own a chainsaw!!

If we recover anymore property however I will get the moderators to put a post up.

I don't think leaving the forum is the answer here. This thread seems to have gained a bit of momentum and any input you may have should be seen as an asset. You've better knowledge of how scumbags operate and may have valuable input as to how better we can secure our tools.

Whilst I'm going to mark and register my tools I don't hold out much hope of them being recovered if they got stolen, and if they were, I would have already started my insurance claim and my premiums will have gone up; forever. We pay for theft at every angle. Physically, emotionally, economically. It's a ball ache and the only way is a hardcore frontline defence.

I intend to make my tools prisoners.

  5. If on way home then obviously in work gear. If on a weekend just casual stuff. If I go in the car I tend to park round the corner (we have a half decent car, wife has a good job) as I don't want them to think that's where their hard earned cash goes, on funding a nice car!

We had a builder come round to quote for some work recently actually... He came in a suit and drove off in a 16 plate Audi A6. Put me right off. Quote came out at 40,000!!! Me and my brother are going to do the work now and costed it to around 12,000-14,000! That includes my brothers day rate!

  6. It seems we live in sadder and sadder times with post after post of stolen equipment. I myself have been victim to theft a couple of times, one recently. I keep stepping up security measures, but it's never enough. Only last week I had my garage door literally ripped from its housing. They took a 66, 26 and a beloved 200t. They could've taken more but luckily they didn't.

So everything is now bolted to the floor and I'll be installing an alarm. We are going to completely re-jig the garage so there is only one way in and I'm going to try and make it bomb proof. But, where does it end? I thought they were pretty secure until the brazen bottom feeders did that to the door.

I'm kind of hoping people can share their security measures for those of us who may not have thought of something, or a measure that has actually thwarted an attempt.

As we are aware tools are rarely recovered, so whilst micro dots and listing serial numbers are great, they don't really do much. These people make a living from stolen gear and they will do anything to get at it.

One thing I keep seeing/hearing is "My truck got done over and they got x,y & z".

Now this is an easy one and I emplore people to NEVER leave kit in vehicles. It WILL get taken.

Let's not give them a free ride. Post your security measures so that there's less of our hard earned tools/kit getting into the hands of these scum.
