  2. You have two options really. Clean the head up, chuck a head gasket in and see what happens. At best it'll be a cheap fix, at worst it'll be head back off.

Or, strip the head down and take it to a machine shop for pressure testing and skim. We sent a 1505 head off for testing and skim recently. The Kubota engine dealer supplied the upper head set as well and believe the bill was just shy of £500 inc vat.

I have an En Tec wood chipper I think En Tec became Timberwolf

My chipper has a Diesel Kubota engine V1200Nd stamped on the engine and a sticker on the cylinder head cover V1205.

The Engine recently overheated due to a clogged radiator, I have replaced the radiator and a new fan but am sure the head gasket is blown as getting air bubbles in the coolant, I want to take the head off at the weekend but if the head is cracked I cant find any replacement heads available in this country.

Any advice on changing the head gasket or if head is cracked any where to get a new or refurbished cylinder head

Will it be ok to reuse the cylinder head bolts

    Thanks

On the rocker cover you should have a decal with the engine model and serial number. Give this to a Kubota engine dealer and see if they can supply.

Generally, if the rad has blocked and the engine has overheated properly you will of cracked the head. We have done loads over the years. Usual symptoms are compression gasses in the coolant, very hard to start cold and white smoke on crank.

Whizz the head off, you can usually see the cracks across the combustion chamber. You can re use the head bolts. Always good practice to get some cardboard and lay your components out in the cardboard exactly how they came off.

You could refit a 1305 or 1505 if required. But most used engines are knackered. Compression wise, serviceable limit from Kubota is 327 PSI. Ideally you want more towards 400 PSI.

I'd get the head off and see, that age should be old school cast iron head I would have thought - not that likely to distort on overheat. In the old days we'd just clean up, new head gasket, bolt it back on and see how it goes. Unless it proper overheated and melted the pistons of course....

Very rarely a Kubota engine will blow the head gasket.9 of 10 times they'll crack the head.

  5. With gang mowers you'll need to be cutting every week or two. As a rough rule of thumb you'll be able to reduce by about 50% per cut. If the grass is over say 8-12 high inches you have no chance.

The only cylinder mower which will cut slightly higher grass is hydraulic powered fitted with the 4 bladed cylinders which Ransomes offer.

  6. A couple of months ago we were asked to rebuild a customers 19-28 SafeTrak MK2 and incorporate a colour change. Here is the progress so far. This is the first of two machines.

Correction- it shows Foxwood in stock.£4800 nearly. Bit dear when a Chinese equivalent for £3k less- albeit cheaper components.

We have a year old CS100 coming into stock shortly. 2 years warranty remaining.

  8. A set of digital bathroom scales will sort out any weight issues.

However, a few grams isn't going to make much difference. When you consider that when timber is going through the flywheel that's turning anti clockwise, 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock is loaded with chip, then 12 o'clock back around to 6 o'clock is largely empty.
