  1. Ahh thanks, well the stuff that looks like ash wasn't that heavy either and i know ash is heavy, which made me doubt it. Just googled goat willow and looks like it could be. Not heard of that before btw. I'll upload some more pics now, but not letting me upload multiple pics from ipad for some reason.
  2. Its quite light. I'm thinking maybe poplar? Although this is heavy when freshly cut, but would pop cut at this time of year be a lot lighter already?
  3. And is this ash?
  4. Hi can anyone help with these please?
  5. In the morning after a fire open up your vents to keep the draught flowing, also you should keep them open in the summer to allow any condensation to dry out and prevents the stove rusting. And / or you can leave the door ajar too to help the flow. But i will say as mentioned earlier on by vespasian, sometimes the flow reverses and I too had put this down to atmospherics, either to do with pressure or humidity.

    Summer?

Anyone got the fire going today? We have just lit it!
  7. Hi Dad;) Not sure if you have seen the ludlow up close but the ash pan compartment is pretty tight, and the ash pan is four-sided so no scooping, and raised lines on the base too so not easy to sweep.
  8. Hi yes aware of burning on a bed of ash and I do, but I have an aga ludlow which is great, but the ash pan underneath stupidly isn't wide enough and the ash often misses the pan when falling through the grate. It's not often I have to clean the spilt ash but I have learnt the hard way and ruined our last hoover and had to replace the motor from hoovering up ash.
  9. Thanks, will check it out
  10. Hi yes I can't use that type as I have a dyson and from what i've read they don't work with bagless hoovers or maybe the hose doesn't fit or something like that.
  11. Hi Anyone have an ash vacuum for their wood stove? Not the attachment type but the stand alone type? Looking to buy one but would be good to hear of anyone's experiences of any. Thanks Will
  12. I have one of these, bought brand new and works fine when the batteries are brand new, but twice now they've gone flat from it just sitting there not being used, and after not much use at all. First of all i thought the batteries that came with it may have been cheap, but i replaced with a good brand and the same thing has happened. Can anyone recommend a more decent meter? btw, the meter seemed to work fine when in working, but i've not got anything to compare it too. And the batteries are expensive to replace too.
  13. Thanks, not the best for firewood then. Cheers
  14. Hi can any help with this one please? thanks Will
  15. Awesome, thanks both. when i think of beech, i think of copper beech, forgetting about common beech!!!! Good wood to burn then! (well seasoned of course)
  16. Hi New to the forum but read quite a bit. Please can someone help id these logs for me please? I'm thinking Alder but not sure. Sorry for rubbish pics thanks Will
