Thanks for all the responses! South Devon is a tad far unfortunately, thank you though. The knocker does look good. I have seen a couple of videos of the protec one in operation and thought it looked pretty capable, I'm guessing they were fitted with 180kg hammer having looked at their website. I did think about auger and back fill but felt it would be more economical and stronger to ram them? I think I will probably go down the contractor route to be honest, saves messing around and getting used to a piece of kit I doubt I will be using regularly. If the posts start deflecting off stone or twisting I'll likely be throwing my toys out the Avant every 20 minutes. Cheers guys

How do you go about advertising and getting yourself out there for this type of work, if you don't mind me asking? I've been struggling to find extra work for the Avant other than what we need it for with the usual work.

Thanks for the replies and help lads! Had a bit of a ring round and organised someone to have a look at the timber for me and sorted logistics.... the jobs now reverted to a former spec to uplift them all instead. They weren’t quite prepared for how pricey the work was going to be!

Hello, I am quoting on the removal of 4 large Western Red Cedar's, ranging from 5 to 7 ft across at the base. I am trying to work out the best way to remove timber off site, we will have an Avant on site to move timber into a suitable place for grab lorry or something similar. Yes exactly, hirer would need their own HIP insurance although I'm sure I could sort that for them and tack it onto the price, and it would be hired under standard CPA terms. Me as an operator with public liability, and the machine itself is covered by plant insurance.

Hi there, I have a 2016 Avant 528 with timber grab, log grab and augers available for hire in West Sussex and surrounding areas. The machine can be equipped with a hydraulic swivel timber grab (see bottom of page for video), forks and log grab, augers, or a general purpose bucket. Other attachments can be sourced so please ask. The machine has the large 190kg rear side weights and 25kg rear weight with a tow ball and pin. I also have a Carlton SP2010 stump grinder available for hire. The machines are available with me as an operator or I can deliver and collect or it can be collected and returned with either a supplied plant trailer or your own means. I collected the machine Saturday last so have no pictures of it in operation as yet but will be working on that over the next week. Machines will always be supplied clean and ready for work. I also have a rather large amount at another site in Peworth, I have had Stobarts out for a load but after speaking to them again, I am not sure they want it as some of the pile is 3 years old & mulching down.
