Mountfield ones are different to hayter ones due the drive works off the engine on Mountfield ones. The covers are more universal and service items.
Good engines tho

I use morris oil at work that's died blue and made in Britain
That's Jaso fd

Bush works perfectly but now I just need to make a spacer and exhaust as the piston hits the cylinder. And the cylinder is sitting at 90 degrees instead of 80.

You do worry about some peoples thinking sometimes
-
The 042 uses a 13mm wrist pin so I need to downsize to 10mm to make everything work
-
The only difference I have found is the wrist pin sizes I have managed to get round this by getting a bush that will go between the needle roller bearing and the wrist pin
-
Yes always loosen the tank cap before have you checked the breather on the tank
-
I know they're different designs but they're cylinders are very similar as I said the odvious difference is the angle of the spark plug but other than that I cannot see any major difference
-
Does it run and rev on choke as I know these do like to use their choke on start up. Also have you tried bliping the throttle? To try and get revs up
-
What do you guys use to clean these saws??
-
Has anyone managed to do this as they're both the same stroke and the 044 is a bit bigger in bore.
I can only see the plastics being the issue in this as the spark plug will stick up higher
-
Someone has unfortunately damaged the muffler 😔 so I'll probably just repair it and leave her be

Stihl 042 a proper old saw
-
I recently bought a 042 that runs I was wondering what would waken it up a bit. I was thinking a dual port muffler and Base gasket delete. any other simple mods that would help this saw?
-
I might have a carb and ignition coil for one of these.
-
Dont managed to track one down and a chain brake / clutch cover
-
If you need anything for one these I have one as a parts saw. Have you adjusted the hi carb screw?
-
Does anyone have one have one these exhausts laying round as I am struggling to find one with one having to order from America.
-
Can't beat free stuff but saying that I have the 24v Clarke rechargeable one that is more than enough for me. I also got given a bluepoint air impact wrench and the previous had dropped it so the sockets use to fall off until I welded it up
-
Well that's alot more than I paid for it so I would be happy with that.

Did both your batteries go or just one as I use a 07 plate tipper and one had gone long before the other
-
If it's a genuine ford battery I'm not surprised they're rubbish. Shame they're not like the old motorcraft ones. Remember with batteries you get what you pay for
