  1. Yeh its a tempory measure while I look at a proper saw, currently looking towads a 545 or 555 Husky
  2. It has 110,000 miles on the clock, general wear and tear but appeared to have nothing major. On an 2005 plate. Seemed alright but will get a second opinion on it. How much would a set of offroad tyres cost for it?
  3. Been looking for a Land Rover, but so far theyve all been well out of my price range or within it just in a terrible state ie chasis rot. But a local garage has a narvara up for a reasonable price, as this will be my first truck and need something 4x4 for work purposes.
  4. Took the saw apart today and the spark plug didnt appear to have much oil on it, so will take it that it would be fine to continue with the 1:50 mix instead of the started 1:25 mix. Is there anything else that should be checked before using the newer mix/anything I should keep an eye on to prevent the saw "clogging" up from this use of the wrong fuel mix?
  5. What do poeple think of the Nissan Navara? Is it any good offroad ie through fields and mud tracks etc
  6. Starting to build up a maintenance box/kit for my saw. Other than the obvious file, depth gauage and combi spanner what other tools do people have/use? Do you have a "workshop" kit and a "field" kit or just one with everything you need?
  7. As yet I'm only qualified to fell small trees, so guessing short term it would be overkill using the 365, and would be using it for small tree's, limbing and logs for the next few months at least. As I plan on working up through the NPTC scheme I'm guessing either the 545 or 555 would suit as they are probably light enough to use for the climbing aspect?
  8. Looking at the paperwork the Husky's seem to be the better option with fairer price tags but for the same power to weight comparison the Huskys seem to win each time. I hired a Makita for my course and on the last day tried a Stihl, out of the two prefered the Makita seemed to have more grunt. The trainer had no preference out of what saw he prefers hands down. On the other hand some people I've spoken to are looking to move over from Stihl to Huskys once they need to get a new saw, or even a Makita although a local Makita/Stihl dealer to me said they were stopping the Makita's as there seem to be issues - didnt really go into detail. With the Sthils they're sayng the Stihl saw doesnt feel the same as they used to. In terms of the Husky Ive narrowed it down to either a 545 or a 365, where the 365 would be a long term versitile saw when the 545 would be what i would use now for gaining experience and taking further training. Is this choice the right one?
  9. So would it be better to stick with using the 1:50 mix, guessing though with using the wrong mix the saw will be under powered or something like that?
  10. Would it be better to invest in a 545 for now get used to that, and then once I have more experience buy a second saw that can take the much bigger bars, as for now itll be used a couple of days a week at the most if not twice every other week. The xp saws dont seem to offer much more other than rev boost for the extra £50 or so compared to the non xp versions are they really worth that extra bump?
  11. Its an MT-9999, brought it to get used to using a saw before I make the investment into something new, just not sure whether to continue using a 1:50 mix or revert to the suggested 1:25 mix (guessing I will need to clean it out)
  12. Just brought a second hand basic saw to play around with before investing in new gear. The manual states it runs on a 1:25 mix, but the person I brought it off ran it using a 1:50 mix. Should I continue using a 1:50 mix or clean out the machine and revert to the manual and use the 1:25 mix?
  13. Just recently completed a basic course so looking for a decent saw to get me started with building up some experience before taking on some bigger training, atm seem to be settled on a Husky but stuck between 545 or 555 or even the bigger 365. Is there anything different thats better/which out of the three is best?
  14. What are people's thoughts on the Husky auto tune system?
  15. Looking to buy my first saw, to be used for small tree felling and related ground work along with using for hedge work and log cutting. For my course I hired a 50cc Makita (not sure on the model) with a 15"bar, but been doing some work for a friend using their MS181c with a 13"bar (I think). Ive heard from varying people that Sthil's arent as good as they used to be, yet on this and other forums there still seems a definite split between the two. Prefer the saws where I have to use a tool to control the chain tension etc rather than the toolless systems, and seem to have issues with the chain oil cap when Ive been using the Sthil saw with the "odd" locking system. Would probably go for a 15" or 18" bar as seems to be a size for all round use. Been looking online at; MS 271 Husquvarna 545 Makita DCS5030-38 (this might be what I hired) MS 291 Husquvarna 555 MS 261 Husquvarna 550xp Any advice on these or other saws, plus any good advice for when I go to a dealer to have a "hands on" look.
