  1. yup i would check the bar, oiling channel will be full of sawdust i bet.
  2. yes, it just needed a retune i put the bar and chain back on, it cuts like it used to. i have an idea that the jet screws had vibrated in, the more i used the saw the leaner it became. if i think about the saws performance it all makes sense, it started revving up on its own and stalling, a sign it was lean. the screws are quite loose, i think a drop of locktite is in order here. i still need to lean it out in the cut i think, it is a bit rich but i have no more wood to cut atm. a big thanks to you guys for helping me out here, eddy_t and spud i may well try out aspen eddie@aspen, after i run out of the 2 stroke oil to mix. thanks for nothing maloys mowers, we can't be bothered to fix your saw.co.uk chris.
  3. i put the saw back together today. cut slots in the carb screws, started it up with the screws about 2.5 turns out which sounded to lean so at 3 turns out it was much better, now it will tickover nice. it also revs up on w.o.t so i have to put the chain and bar on and give it a go so far so good, wish me luck chris
  4. used to get them adjustment screw limiters on some cars i used to work on years ago, when they had carb's. they where a pain and mostly ended up removed from the carb. as well as an array of different tools we used to have to make to adjust the carb. i will put this saw back together at some point, probably end up fixing it myself by the looks of it. makes me wonder if the shop i took it to have the spline tool to adjust the carb. chris.
  5. how true. i know ill never buy another mccolluch saw, thats for sure chris
  6. i got back to mccolluch uk, still no word from them..
  7. oh.. i thought it would run ok on urine i had to walk miles to find that bottle..
  8. seems better than my suggestion joe
  9. exactly what i thought... what about my fuel mix, is it correct? he also did not say anything about a leak/vacum test.
  10. i could come along and we can see how long it takes to down a tree by throwing a mccolluch at it...
  11. guys, the shop phoned me and said that i had been running the saw on the wrong % mix... he showed me some fuel he said he drained out of the tank and it looked like raw fuel, he said it should be red, well the fuel i put in it was red. then he showed me the bore and said it had 2 nicks out of it. i said ok fine and took the saw home, now im home im looking at the bore and those nick's he is talking about look like bubbles in the casting to me. the bore has no steel liner. the piston has no damage to it like you would expect if it had grabbed some alloy from the bore. as i dont use this saw very often i only mix up 500ml of fuel at a time, the manual says 1:50 ratio which is 10ml of oil to 500ml of petrol. so now my saw is in bits... what shall i do guys... here are pics of the bubble in the casting and the side of the piston which the bubble is... the rest of the fuel from what was in the tank looked like this... thanks again guys, chris.
  12. the saw has gone to malloys mowers for repairs, authorized by the guy i emailed at mccholluch uk i hear you welshwoodman, stuff these days just dont last 5 mins. the saw has had like less than 7 lts of fuel through it... doobin, i still may end up doing that... we will see what happens. cheers guys, chris
  13. i have spent hours on this saw... i can't get it to run right i think i will shoot mcculloch an e mail...this is getting silly, i also notice eveytime i refill with fuel the tank filler screw gets tighter. i can barely screw the cap back in now after filling, so tight it hurts my pinkys. i just put fresh fuel in today just incase the old fuel had gone off, no change chris
  14. ya, cheers spud. i watched a few tuning vids on youtube and thats pretty much what they said. basically i need it just lean of 4 stroking on idle with good pickup. so will they loose compression when too hot or would they just seize? chris
