  1. pmsl, thought I might need to go bigger. I'm playing in my woods with 12-36 inch ash trees mainly but would have to mill in situ with no transport other than a wheelhorse mini tractor as very steep terrain. I looked at an american 24 inch mill you can sit on a ladder rail but it looked small to me I'm hobby use rather than commercial so need to keep cost downs but can buy S/H. Need to get a big stihl first me thinks and buy the mill after. Ive cut loads of huge ash into firewood before due to its size and i'm guessing 20 inch or so x 2m planks would be just about manageable to get out the woods for me. 30-36 would be ample. Thx regards Andy
  2. Hi Big J You look like you mill. Any advice Ive been looking at alasken mill but only have a 20 inch saw.....
  3. Hi, if you get 300x300 or 12x12 inch sq section 4m would be a good structural section length. However if you use it in construction you would need a structural calcs for main structural span over 3.3m for say roof purlin. Shakes, knots or defects would limit its use for structural timber. I would plank it and make some chunky furniture?, gate posts?,sell to carver?
  4. SPB excellent.... Can fix half my kit now thx
  5. Thanks guys Ill keep on looking..... I ll have a word with him and see if the cylinder is ok. He worked in the stihl shop so should know but ill mention it. Thanks for links. Looks about 70 quid to fix so not too bad if its works ok, think it will be good saw for small stuff and maybe carving. Using a 180 to carve atm which is great saw as well.
  6. Thanks, it just sold, damm item number 261275534964 . He had them all listed as 40mm but i thought 250 was 42.5mm. The guy who stripped the saw said I need a replacement piston and barrel which ive taken as cylinder and piston? Any experience of aftermarket parts for 210 /230. My chap said 20 quid to fit. Regards Andy
  7. Hi newbie, joined when I saw this post last evening. I have been looking for a 211c cylinder and piston as previous saw owner thought it would be ok to run a tank of petrol only just the once , so cheap saw... I was horrified by stihl price and cant find an aftermarket. Is that direct straight swap no hassles etc to use a 230/250 cylinder and pistion, there is a stihl one on ebay for 20 quid... Regards Andy
