People trafficking is right up there with the vilest of crimes against humanity and it's quite correct that anyone so openly supportive of it should be taken off air.

    Hopefully permanently.

    Who's supportive of it??

  2. I recently stepped down from a job as the client wasn't prepared to wait for a felling license, another contractor trashed a stretch of woodland much to the anger of the residents that lived along the other side of the road. Someone had contacted the FC to only to be informed a few days later that they had obtained a felling license.. Didn't realise one could be obtained within the space of a week lol

Interesting question. A notification to the LPA under CA rules can result in consent from the LPA to remove the trees but this only implies that the LPA didn't consider the trees important enough for the amenity of the area to deserve the special protection of a TPO. Or to put it another way, that's the ONLY consideration that a LPA should apply. Conversely the Commission should have only secondary regard to amenity. These areas can cross over to each other a little, and where TPOs are concerned there are special rules which usually result in FL applications for TPOd trees being referred to the LPA to be considered under TPO rules.

But for the life of me I cannot think of anything anywhere that actually says (or even suggests) that CA consent exempts you from the need for a FP.

After speaking to someone from the FC I'll be applying for a thin, it's less than 30% of the trees in the woodland. No need for a restocking either. It will benefit the smaller trees beneath the canopies of the sycamores- yew/beech etc.

It sounds like regardless of the trees being in a conservation area and permission being granted by LPA it seems just to be down to volume of timber that requires the license.

Just rereading the guidance and even if you do it gradually at 5cu a quarter the onus is on you to prove no more than 5 was felled in any one quarter if they should investigate afterwards.

As above, I would definitely stop and get in touch with FC.

I don't really want to do it gradually I'd rather just get the permission. I think there's about 5 cbm there and that's where I'm stopping.

    For the love of God....

50 trees to be removed because of an ignorant recreational saddle wanker.

Tell her if she feeds and tends her horses properly they won't eat Sycamore seeds and the probability of harm is directly proportional to her attention and care for her horses!

    • Feed forage, such as hay in parched fields, off of floor in haynets or feed racks
    • Do not over stock fields so horses have access to good grass
    • Limit turnout, ideally keeping horses in over night
    • Section off areas around poisonous trees and collect and dispose of leaves and seeds safely away from horses
    • Remove young sapling plants
    • Be vigilant of the potential signs of this disease and act quickly if your horse becomes poorly
    • Ensure you check your horse multiple times a day
    • Check your insurance cover for veterinary care is up to date

Sycamore poisoning, or atypical myopathy, caused by the ingestion of sycamore seeds or seedlings can be fatal to...

I know I've been over all of this with her, it is somewhat of an extreme reaction to take them all down. The surrounding woodland area is dense with Beech yew and ash and maple so they're unlikely to be missed on the landscape, point being that we're on the 5cbm limit for this quarter so without a felling license I don't believe we can proceed....

  6. Hi,

I got consent in a conservation area to fell close to 50 sycamore trees surrounding paddock land for horses.

I've done planning and got permission from the LPA, I'm putting the brakes on mainly due to weather but think I better apply for a felling license too. Not sure if I require this alongside permission from LPA.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

He says ...It was found in the woods ( probably waiting to be collected by the " do as you likeys " who stole it ) He says he has informed the insurance company but they are slow in responding .

In the field on the edge of the woods where it was found the estate had a deer stalker up in the nest who said the same truck came by every night and slowed down and stopped along the road but must have noticed the deer stalkers truck parked up.... incredible

Insurance company paid out in less than 2 weeks😳, they should be recommended- who were they, are they one of the main ones?

They are one of the highest recommended insurers in the trade.

It's been shocking and kind of disheartening how disinterested the police were and how the insures didn't really ask for more than a crime number, guess it's such a regular occurrence...

Usually with insurance companies, they don't do much until you chase them. Make a nuisance of yourself if you want any progress.

    Will do, appreciate the advice!

I'd fallen out with the yard owner over all of this so I now effectively have the recovered chipper at home which makes me nervous

Sell it after you’ve bought it off them obviously.

But yes, I’d imagine there is also a good chance the claim is being investigated…

Fine if they did, just wanted someone to communicate something as it's been silent

  11. Can anyone help me I was broken into 19th of September and had my chipper stolen. Two weeks later it was found in the woods on a local estate, so I had already been paid out by the insurers and wound down my company due to security concerns. I alerted the insurers and notified me that it was their property but haven't heard from them as to when they'll get it?!

It's currently locked on the driveway but obviously not ideal, anyone been through a similar situation?

  12. Can anyone with a log boiler system offer any advice?

Moving to a property currently on oil but looking at systems to implement. Questions to ask,

    Which system?

    Cost of installation?

Can it run alongside / be incorporated into an existing oil system?

I'm aware any government help is now closed but as being a tree surgeon with a healthy supply of firewood would negate the loss of help from the gov.
