  1. That's what she said..... Sorry, that was too easy
  2. No. Looking for someone who knows what they are doing. I could get a local door knocking type fellow to do it for £10 a tree.
  3. Just looking for someone to fell then in to the garden, nothing more. I'll deal with them once down. Would guess there is enough for then to fall inside the garden boundary. Thought best to get done before I get that greenhouse you can see glazed. I can move that to somewhere safe before taking the trees down. I'm in Livingston west lothian. Cheers Danny
  4. In West Lothian, and it is west Lothian council that sent the letter. The Mrs bumped in to one of the neighbours at lunch and just emailed me, she plans on ignoring it.... and i had her down as one of the less mental! If anyone wants to quote, i'm happy to send letters out to everyone and see if they will pay up. only problem is those what just wont! I know that if it was a factoring company, they would chase people up for money and take legal action. If i get the majority to take action, is there an "easy" way to get others to pay?
  5. I’ve got a house that I rent out and have owned for about 6 years. Just this week the council sent a letter to say that there is a bit of communal land, owned by about 100 houses, that has fallen in to disrepair and is below acceptable levels for visual aesthetics… It’s a bit of a joke, as the land is not even visible from 90% of the houses. First thing I done was check my title deeds to the house…and right enough, there is a chunk of land that I have communal ownership and I’m in part responsible for. Read further in the letter “ as you will know, this area is overgrown with Japanese knotweed…” “it’s your responsibility to ensure maintenance with your neighbours of this land..” So, where do I go from here? In the house I live in, I know I could go door to door or have a street meeting in the pub and between us, we would hire a few local gardeners with brush cutters to blitz the area and pour the most toxic herbicides known to man twice a year and job done…. Or all pitch in. But, this house is in a strange street, about 50% of the houses are rented by folk that don’t care, either the landlord or residents, the other 50% are a bit mental… maybe I am being unfair ;-) Do I either do a lot of leg work and try and corral the 100 folk in to getting someone in to do it for a reasonable price, or all pitch in with their time…. guarantee there will be a big majority of people that just don’t pay / help. Leave it – what happens then? Council come and do it and charge us all? Contact factoring companies? What’s it likely to cost to clear and keep on a yearly basis? We are looking at about an acre of land with 7ft knotweed on it, dies back in the winter obviously, good access. Thanks! Danny

  7. that's great, thanks! how did you get the file size, from the above data? taht would be 5.5mm in new money, right? and for the Oregon chain, is there somewhere i could have found that information myself? curiosity and appetite for learning Regards, Danny
  8. Morning, I've got a Makita dcs5000 and looking to get a file to sharpen the chain, but not sure what size to get.... Would also like to order up a spare chain at the same time. I've attached a couple of photos of the bar and chain that are on it just now. on the chain there are markings of "099" or could be "660" depending on orientation. then another marking of "25" and branded "dolmar" on the bar "Makita GT" "3/8 56 1.5/.58" "443.038.651" any help appreciated! oh...and if anyone has a link to the exact instruction manual...that would be handy! Regards, Danny
  9. Give google goggles a try :-) that was a photo used in an advert for that same site in the USA. Google images, if you don't have goggles - DYNAMIC CONEHEAD 565 first image is the auction listing £10k/$16k the auction ended as Regards, Danny
  10. waist would be about 38, depends on the cut really. Levi's are a 38, Gap jeans are 36, Dickies are 38 or 40... so 38 or 40 i guess second hand would be fine if price reflects that...
  11. Bought some Treemme boots at the weekend and a Stihl helmet at the weekend. Also some chain oil and 2 stroke oil. Just trousers to go :-) any recommendations for not ridiculously expensive trousers? thanks Danny
  12. Afternoon, Just ordered a saw (Makita DCS5000 50cc series with 15” bar) And before I think about firing it up….what else should I get? Helmet with visor and ear defenders? Trousers? Boots? Gloves? Chain File & Plug key? Anything else that is 100% necessary? Have been offered a safety briefing from a kind member on here. I’ll not being doing chainsaw work as a living, but will be cutting logs in to rounds for firewood a couple of times a year. Is there somewhere offering a “beginners kit”? Best place to look for cheap, but decent, starter kit? Any second hand places to look? Thanks! Danny
  13. mind if i ask why you rejected the idea? thanks Danny
  14. Thanks for the replies. I'm in West Lothian. gauging interest at the moment, as if this is a go'er then the business case for a wood burner stacks up. it's a king cab / 4 dr / crew cab, call it what you will, Hilux. have tow bar, so trailering away could be an option if needed. I'd travel 30miles or so for a days work. Cheers! Dan
  15. Afternoon, Just about to move in to a new house in a couple of months and thinking long term about renewable energy, mainly wood burning boiler. I've got a couple of trees in the back garden that I’ll cut down in due time. To supplement my supplies, was thinking it would be interesting to see if anyone works in the Central Scotland area and would be looking for a bit of help labouring, in return I’d get some of the logs in return? IT manager by day, self-builder by evening/weekend, not scared of a bit of hard work…spent a summer in Australia labouring on building sites. Drive Hilux with ATs and tow bar, so you don't need to worry about me getting there and back Cheers, Danny
