  1. It's worth more than 2 "landies". A proper truck vs LR rubbish. A long term investment worth every penny imo. Land Rover can shudder in fear of the 79LC.

I agree, maybe that's why they are stopping the defender:laugh1:

the old rust bucket has done a round the world trip! not surprised it looks worn!!. the owner said he would have driven it to cape town tomorrow.

my hilux has done 238000, never missed a beat. second clutch, 1 prop shaft etc....

  2. seems a good price to me, if it was a domestic client I would imagine it would be much more.

some garden centres around Berkshire sell worse mushrooms for a lot more.

if they say, when you are here with your chainsaw can you just......,say no, sorry.

try not to think of her comments, but the smiles on the kids faces.

with all the crap that goes with it, it probably cost double that to put a small slide or swing in!!

its obvious you take pride in your work and customer satisfaction, perhaps they should.

nice work, wish they were in my kids school:thumbup:

  3. why not think of a landy or pickup tipper?

small load space, but great for domestic work.

because you have good 4x4, you can tip in muddy fields, stables, nature reserves, etc.

mines been good. I tow a chipper and my colleague has a 90 and trailer.

can probably legally hold as much as a transit or cab star.:thumbup1:

  4. Pics Wick, we don't believe you.

    On second thoughts.....

Maria, in your profile pic are you sitting under a hairdryer? With a helmet on?

I do this, but with the vents opened on my Petzl Vertex.

    Because I'm worth it.

Most Arbtalkers I've met over the years are surprisingly just like I'd imagined them, apart from Mendiplogs who is actually really easy to understand (see you next time Jon!) and Tony Sorenson, who I thought was some fat old dude, instead of the lean young dude he turned out to be! (And he's good crack!).

If you think you know someone, ask them, no one gets offended if you're wrong!

I'm easy to spot, 6'2", handsome, flowing thick locks, muscular build, huge penis.

I'm not there this year mind. Gutted.

  5. I have been asked to look at getting on this course in order to take over the inspection and recording of all our kit (6+climbing kits + lowering + Rigging, etc)

The course prerequisites suggest either CS38, 39, etc or 5 years experience. although exceptions may be made in some cases / supportive roles.

I have only CS30/31 but have been working for a professional company for nearly 2 years, this has seen me move from the groundwork and now taking more of an office based role, quoting, estimates, prepping jobs, organising teams, etc etc. I have done a bit of climbing (and a past history as a rock climbing instructor) and have a reaasonably sound knowledge, allbeit not the tickets to back it up.

Basically I'm after any advice from providers of this course (or those who have taken it) to help decide if I would be able to do the course.

can I ask where the course is and cost. I was wondering can you check your own kit?!

that's what we all used to do anyway. :thumbup1: but long term it might be cheaper.

speak to the providers of the course and see what they say.

if you can, go for it. I cant find a local loler inspector near me. could be a useful thing to have. good luck.

  6. thanks gensetsteve, does look good. I like the helper spring idea.do you just weld them in?

notforsale, you just need an older, cheaper model..:001_tt2:

    good luck with the move.

that l200 does look nice though.

  7. Good people to deal with. If I was going to another one I would measure up the extra cab as it carries 1085kg but the single cab 750 kg.

I was hoping with the buck off it would increase to 850kg but the tipper must of been heavy as it was down to about 450-500kg and thats before I got in with me sannies. I put an extra helper coil spring in and it carried 750kg fine on private ground :001_rolleyes: but 850 was too much as it swayed and brake were not up to it.

my newer one should carry more as its extra cab. they said I could put a seven ft bed on it. that's the same length as my old single cab!!

I worry that it might look tail heavy, especially with chipper on.

I am tempted by air bags but need to sell my body parts first. still I am glad I got a hilux:001_cool: worth the extra pounds I hope.

thanks for the help and advice. nice to know someone who has got one done by them.

  8. We've got 2 Hilux tippers from Rob Nash. Air bags make a difference. They pull well and the guys are really happy with them. Not a huge payload, though it's easy to get off road to tip so no real drama. Also it's difficult to overload, which is not the case with virtually any other type of tipper.

what make of air bags do you have on them? the air ride on my old hilux has helped heaps. it always pays to at least look legal me thinks:001_tt2:

sorry for deviating from the original thread again.

  9. Boulters in Tadley did my conversion if you are down south. He provides a serial plate and certificate which NFU were happy with. Very well made with huge ram but a little on the heavy side but it will always tip and you wont twist the body.

thanks everyone, glad I didn't buy the blue one by the sound of it!!

that's where I went gensetsteve. I take it you are happy with yours? they did look a good outfit and build quality looked good.

did the tipper add much weight to the pick up?

    thanks again.

  10. nfu, my insurance company, want an engineers report or something once its done.

that limits my choice I think.

sometimes the small companies or one man band do just as good job.:confused1:

blew most of my budget on a 09 hilux extra cab :001_smile:. ex lease hire.

so far so good, have not used it for work much, no tow ball or tipper/high sides yet.

it does bloody beep when I reverse, got to find the wires for that...

my old hilux has been so good to me, I thought I best stay with them.

  11. no worries not for sale, just thought I would mention it.

sorry to deviate, but can I ask if you know of anyone who does conversions to tippers?

I've been quoted 3.5 grand for a decent high side one. is that about right?

good luck with the hunt. if that's the blue hilux on ebay, I think its gone. I rang about 3 weeks ago and he said it was sold but had a white one. might be worth a call.

  12. I am about to sell my p reg single cab hilux. it has done 238,000, so not a new one.

does however have a tipper and air ride suspension!! load it up...

it will be on ebay in a week or so. pm me if you want more info or photos.

will be sad to see it go, but had to replace with a extra cab, kids....

it looks and is a work horse, been very good to me.

    good luck in your search.

  13. thanks all

whilst I was over weight in my old single cab. (heavy steel tipper and low pay load) I hope to be legal in the extra cab.

its gvw is 2850 and will have a smaller load space and alloy tipper.

I hope to be able to carry 850kg ish

even legal it will still look heavy. I just wanted to 'look better' at first glance.

    thanks again:001_smile:

  14. good points. my old one had a gvw of 2.5 ton

this one is a little better at 2.85. I figure with me and pack lunch should carry 850kg

I want to stay legal so springs it might be.

I will have to limit the size of the chip box, you know the scene, just chip that little bit more....

  15. thanks.

the air ride has been spot on.

i would consider another, but know nothing other than what i have read.

if mine is so good, why has no one else got one?

i think they cost about a grand, its a lot but my bed never, ever, went down. i had 1.4 ton on it once. on a farm of course...it handled like a boat mind.

    thanks for the advice:thumbup1:

  16. Hi all,

I have just replaced my 97 single cab hilux with a newer extra cab.

the old one had air ride air suspension on it when I bought it. plug in to a compressor and the back lifts up. I never looked over loaded. I put a high side tipper on it and carried a lot of chip etc.

I used the newer one (09 plate) today for the first time and stuck a load of logs in the back and looked like I was on a launch pad...:confused1:

has anyone else had experience with air ride or the same? I have had no problem with it in 12 years but don't know of any other than mine. it has carried some weight to:001_smile:

would a lift kit and heavy duty springs be the way to go or try the air suspension?

what do you guys use on pick ups?

    thanks:thumbup:
