  1. Blimey, that's enormous! looks like they were lucky it fell in that direction. What's the timber going for?
  2. During a quiet moment before NPT arrived to move the timber, I had time to count them. Much younger than I expected: I got to 219 before reaching rot within a few inches of the heart. It's definitely not over 250. At its peak it was putting on 3/4" rings a year! Alec, really interesting to see what's going on with the top. I thought the 4' bar I used to cross-cut it was quite impressive but 88" is a different league! I don't envy you seasoning the planks though. Hope the next phase goes well.
  3. Gareth, I've never seen anything like it before; really exciting but a lot of responsibility! Should be starting work next Monday so I'll let you guys know. Mendiplogs, until I found NPT I was having the devil's own job getting hold of someone to move it. There's a quarry just down the road so I gave it serious consideration!
  4. Evening all, looks like I'm late to this party! I'm the chainsaw carver who's going to be working on this timber, very much looking forward to the challenge. NPT did a really excellent job moving the timber given how much it weighed. Mendiplogs, we looked at getting in a shovel loader but none were available within time and budget restrictions. NPT put in a seriously long day of very hard work and I couldn't have asked for more. Cheers guys! I'll start a thread over in chainsaw carving when I start work on it. It's going to be the focal point of a new memorial garden.
  5. I bought my 110 Hi-cap from that seller and he's a good chap. This 02 hi-cap was sat in the barn, and it did look absolutely mint, but I went for one with more "Landy charm" and a much smaller price tag.
