  1. Stupid question I know.. But in general how long would a lockjack sport last before its classes as too old or unsafe? I know the cams wear out and need replacing and if it fails loler etc. just after a rough idea of how long people's have lasted. Cheers
  2. Just wondered if they is any planned or anyone fancy a day climbing at a weekend. Would be nice not to be in work mode and just have a climb share some tips etc. Cheers
  3. Hello I'm looking for some extra work weekends, I have my own saw, climbing kit, PPE and own transport. Preferably not too far from the Dartford area. Willing to travel up to an hour. I have cs30, 31, 38 and 39. I have around 5 years experience, 2 of those climbing. Comfortable in most trees although not the greatest experience in rigging. Am also happy to just ground for the day. I'm young, fit and healthy and can promise a hard days work. Any questions please message me. Thank you
  4. Try putting the Karibiner on the Middle hole to keep it that bit more away from the hitch. Worked for me, although I'm now back to the basic prussik haha
  5. From Dartford, Kent looking for work either or all of the days. Grounding or climbing. Own kit and PPE (no saw) can travel but not too far. Have Cs 30 31 38 39 can drive and tow. Around 2 years climbing experience but nothing too technical (rigging large sections etc). Thanks
  6. Thanks guys and Craig I didn't know that will do it from now...I'm useless at finding out little things like that haha
  7. What piece of rope do you use to tie a blakes hitch? I have a 13mm line so would a 13mm Marlow split tail be good? (From fr Jones)
  8. For example. Half the tree done come down for lunch and going back up. What's a few things people use to get rather than just body trusting. Foot locking techniques? Pullys etc. Thanks
  9. Just bought myself a treemotion super light version (not much lighter) but the straps instead of the clips I actually prefer. They are easily tightend and loosened so can get a snug fit. One thing I don't like is it seems to pull the harness down at the back, although I may have not had it tight enough. Very happy so far!
  10. I always thought go jacks were illegal. But I'm sure the owner would rather that than a log as a passenger
  11. Haha it can be rigged but only started learning the rigging side of things so wouldn't want to put it to test with someone's car.. A shed however I can build haha
  12. Do you still work on the tree if cars are parked under it or not? I do if I know I won't hit them. But came across a pollarded maple with about 10 years growth to re - pollard and all I can if to drop it in big sections.. waiting until tomorrow for when the vehicles move
  13. I have a mate I can try the petzl sequoia so I'm going to try if I like I'll buy if not ill settle for the elderid and I did like the treemagic.. that's if the tree core is anything a like
  14. I have a butterfly at the moment getting a bit worn out and am looking to get a new harness. I had a elderid tree magic III before and liked it but heard good things about the petzl sequoia. Any preference and why? Cheers!
  15. I think I saw a topic on this already but can't find it. Looking for this book Best Practices for Rigging in Arboriculture (VAT exempt) | F R Jones and Son But anywhere cheaper? Thanks
  16. Some great advice thanks guys. It goes from quiet for 2 weeks then the phone goes mad all of a sudden. I guess that's the way it is. My problem is finances at the minute. I plan to stay employed for a few more years and then once I have a chipper I'm going to go in with all I have and go alone.
  17. How long in your experience has it took to get your business up and running, with work most days of the week a earning what you would if you were employed. As for me going okay, not done much advertising but getting 1 or 2 jobs every Weekend now for a year and some during the week. Just waiting for the right time to go alone full time.
  18. Finally found a way it doesn't slip and grabs every time and is still smooth!
  19. Thanks everyone for the comments. Seems to be getting better the more I use it.
  20. What do you mean by a twist? Does anyone have pictures to help. I might go back the old prusik if I can't figure out a solution haha
  21. Hello recently been using an 11mm rope xtc blaze and a 8mm op 90cm with the vt with 4 wraps 4 braids and it sometimes doesn't grip after tending slack? Any tips? Thanks
  22. Hello I'm looking for weekend work Saturday or Sundays local to me, I have my own kit, saw, ppe and van (not tipper) if required. Hold cs30 31 38 39 and first aid. I work monday to Friday and looking for extra to start saving as my weekly wage isn't the greatest Im a hard working groundsman and have been climbing most days for around 6 months, general reductions and small/medium dismantles but no experience in rigging.
