I don't see the problem with any fuel bought at the pump whether it has been bought at a supermarket or at a garage.
I have never heard of any cars breaking down due to bad fuel and I have only heard of 1 saw breaking down due to bad fuel but that was due to the user leaving fuel in the tank for an age (which doesnt happen with Aspen).
Like anything, if used responsibly, I doubt you will ever have a problem. And if your in doubt, fork out for Aspen and crack on.
Hi Sam,
It sounds like you have good fuel management and have a good fuel supplier.
I call on over 260 garden machinery shops and fuel is the biggest problem for dealers and users alike.
Pump fuels have changed so much and with the increase in chemicals and ethanol things are set to get worse.
Modern cars have sealed fuel systems with computers constantly adjusting valve timing, mixture and ignition.
Small engines don't have all of that.
Classic bikes are having the same problems. The vintage motorcycle club (VMCC) asked me to do a talk to their members about fuels and fuel problems.
Not only with fuel going off to the point it won't ignite in an engine but also
With the 100- 130 chemicals in pump fuels engines with carburettors are getting residues left in them at are reducing the jetting.
This causes lack of power or poor idle.
I often hear a mower engines rev up and down repeatedly in my travels.
This is fuel starvation.
Cars get used more often and have sealed fuel injection systems so seem to have less problems.
They also have multi cylinders and spark plugs.
When I had my garden machinery repair business I would often have machinery that I have serviced in the winter refuse to start in the spring even with fuel additives.
I would drain the fuel and they would start up with fresh fuel.
Just google fuel problems you will find pages and pages!

I looked into swapping to Aspen due to all this chat about stale fuel etc etc. It was soon knocked on the head when I looked at cost of Aspen, at a difference of around £3 per litre and using around 30 litres a week (sometimes a lot more) across two saws it's cheaper to use petrol and then if experience saw issues just buy a new saw.
Edit: I have signed the fuel duty petition
Hi,
Talk to your local dealer they may give you a discount for bulk buys and you can get it delivered at no extra charge.
Please also take into account the cost of 2stroke which is already in our Aspen2 and the time saved as the fuel is ready to go. Plus the lower chance of breakdowns.
See our website for Pro User of the month and why they have switched to Aspen.

Thanks Eddie. Listers also told me that new saws sometimes have problems running Aspen. This was also news to me as I thought it was the opposite: older saws run on pump fuel sometimes have issues switching over.
Were they correct to tell me this?
The only thing they have got right is that some 2strokes that have run a lot of pump fuel sometimes need the diaphragms changing.
I call on all our mainland dealers and try to talk to all the staff that dealer with Aspen to stop them giving out incorrect information.
Thanks for informing me as I will get this put right tomorrow.

Petition signed, but round here Aspen's £25-30 for 5 litres, nice idea but I can't imagine paying that.
Hi,
The RRP is a lot lower.
£18.98 inc vat I have been talking to dealers who charge more than our suggested selling price but if you the customer tell they that you would buy if the charged the same as other dealers that would help.
I can't make them change their price.
Is this a dealer with power in the name?
-
Aspen absoulutly fine, but price is a killer, no serious cutter could afford to run it every day, we have also seen a decrease in power when useing it, there is nothing wrong with useing fresh pump fuel with good quaility two stroke oil, regular maintenance of the saw is the answer. Aspen is more for casual users who keep fuel longer than they should and price is not such a issue.
Hi adw,
If you have found a reduction in power when using Aspen its sounds like your saws need a quick mixture adjustment when running Aspen.
You will be surprised to hear we have more and more pro users switching to Aspen.
When they add the time saved having fuel delivered ready to go, the discount for bulk orders and the health benefits they have justified the extra cost.
Check out our website to see this months pro user.
Have you signed the petition?
-
How quick should you use mixed fuel? I keep an emergency 5l mix in the truck but we rarely need to use. Having read the above posts I am thinking I should start an organised rotation? Thanks
Nick
Hi,
Fuel can breakdown in as little as 4 weeks so try not to keep it longer than that.

Over the past four years we've had the piston seized / scored three times on our 660 and once on a 260. Prior to this it never happened. We had our previous 066 for 15 years with no issues.
Has anyone else been having these problems?
We've been using the higher grade green Stihl mix for the last couple of years. I have been paranoid about my fuel mixing and the 660 piston scored again last week.
I decant from the 5L mix container into a 1L one with the squeeze measurer for 5L of fuel. I always make sure slightly above the line. I am the only person who mixes the fuel. I only mix into 5L containers - so no possibility of getting mix wrong. Since the last time the piston went I only buy super unleaded fuel from a branded oil company garage (usually BP).
I have been thinking of switching to premixed Aspen to rule out any issues with fuel. At Lister Wilder in Cirencester today we were informed that Stihl and Husqvarna won't honour warranties on saws if they find Aspen has been used - they require you to use their mix. Can anybody tell me if this is correct? I thought Aspen was regarded as the highest grade fuel you can buy?
If Aspen no good then we'll have to buy another big saw and always carry two on bigger jobs. This is a total pain in the arse!!
Any thoughts / suggestions appreciated...
Hi all,
I have a letter from Stihl saying Aspen does not affect warranty.
Husqvarna run every 2stroke on aspen in the factory and the UK workshops buy Aspen from me. Aspen is even listed in the Husqvarna catalogue.
I will call Lister Wilder in Cirencester on Monday and get this sorted.
If you have any warranty problems because Aspen has been use contact me on 07568 108953 or email [email protected] I will sort it all out for you.
Please keep me informed if our dealers are giving out incorrect information.
If you have any Aspen questions or concerns please contact me direct.
All the best

Have done a search but not found any solid answers. I'm likely to only use my saw occasionally, and am worried about mixing up a 5l can of fuel and then having to bin most of it if it's not used after a couple of months. Due to cost and the distance to my nearest dealer Aspen is out of the question, so have been looking into adding a fuel stabilizer.
I see Briggs and Stratton have a product that is guaranteed to keep petrol stable for 24 months which sounds ideal, even if they are purported to use Aspen themselves! However my query is I've read in a few places that select Stihl 2T oils have stabilizers in them as well, so if I could find out which brand I needed it would be an all in one solution.
The Stihl USA site says their oils contain stabilizing agents, but I can't find any mention on the UK site. Do we get different oils to the States? If not, which one do I want to be buying for the best protection, HP, Super or Ultra?
Hi,
Let me know where you are in the world and who you would like to stock Aspen and I will see if we can get a dealer in your area.
As Barrie says the extra cost of Aspen is less than the inconvenience and repair cost of having a problem.

I have sent a letter of support to your cause to the Minister, Eddy.
'United we stand'
Thanks Barrie,
More letters would help and from users in particular.
We need to prove it is better for you the users and the environment.
Thanks for all your support

Typical Government hogwash. The problem is the people in charge of these departments are not experts, politicians generally have no clue about how industry functions. We hit exactly the same brick wall when we petitioned them about the driver cpc training.
They will only listen when a significant amount of people start shouting about it.
Both Plumpton college and Hadlow college are customers of ours so I am going to see if the can get the students on their Arb courses to sign up and maybe the colleges themselves can start asking the government questions.
That's great news!
All support is very welcome!!
Thanks

Hi all,
Thought you might like to see the latest response from the government.
I think it would help if you the users contacted them on this matter to keep the pressure on.

Dear Mr Bocquillon
Thank you for your letter of 21st October to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, which has been passed to the Treasury.
I am replying as Minister responsible for this policy area.
The promotion of cleaner, sustainable fuels is one of this Government’s priorities, to ensure a future in which we breathe cleaner air and also protect our planet.
However, all tax cuts need to be funded by tax rises or spending cuts elsewhere, and as such, need to be considered carefully in the context of the public finances.
The Government keeps all taxes under review, and all tax changes are announced at fiscal events.
Thank you for taking the trouble to make the Government aware of your concerns.
Yours sincerely

Same here Stubby but how do you sign it 3 times?
I am not sure signing it multiple time will be counted.
This needs to be done right or it will be worthless.
Thank you for your support.

How have the government not seen this as a health and safety issue.. surely emissions and personal health should be top billing in parliament
I have contacted the ministers for forestry and environment for England, Scotland and Wales. Only Scotland came back to me!
I pushed Aspen on it environmental and health benefits but was told it's a Tax issue for Westminster.
Also it was pointed out that as I worked for the suppliers and importers this needs to come from the users to be taken further.
We need more names on the list to help me other wise I will come up against the above again and again.
In my travels I am always looking to find the right people to help with this but with such poor support I don't have much chance of getting anyone in power to take notice.
Don't forget this does not have to be users of the fuel just people who feel the Road Fuel Tax is unfair and that could be anyone!
Thanks to everyone who has signed up.
All the best

It does mate but a lower % .
I wish pumps were labelled so we all know if they had ethanol and if so what %.
One of the many things with my product we guarantee there is NO Ethanol!

Are you crazy!! That'll danage my lungs and my bank balance
My old firm ran aspen for years and I was never convinced, it made the 200ts perform very poorly we eventually got them to switch back to 2 stroke and the saws ran fine.
I won't buy it because it's far to expensive, i get free petrol I only have to add the 2 stroke, chain oil, chains, files, parts and eventually new saws with my massive tool allowance
the joys of a utility cutter
Sounds like 200t's needed the diaphragms and "o" ring on the pump pistons changing for new one's.
When you switched back to pump fuel the solvents make them soft and swell up.
We have loads of 200t & 201t's running on Aspen 100%

Realy?
Doing some hedging last week with my old Husky 340. I run it on Aspen as it does not come out very often. It was a still day and the smell made me feel sick so went back to regular fuel.
If you have run 2stroke mix and switch to Aspen it may take 2-3 tanks of fuel to burn off the old 2stroke oil.
The smell of both Aspen and old 2stroke mixed some people don't like.
The new FRT Aspen has totally different 2stroke oil so if you have the older type of Aspen2 please try the new Aspen2 with FRT on the can's.
-
I have noticed a real change over the last 2 years with regards to 2stroke oils
As more people use the higher grade and higher cost oils because they know they are better.
Using super unleaded and low soot oil or racing oil means the extra cost of Aspen is not much more.
Please sign the petition and help make Aspen even more affordable.

A farmer friend uses this, he mixes it straight into the saw no measuring:lol:
His saw cuts and thats all he wants, it runs like a slug & smokes like hell. I serviced it once for him and found the piston so scored I ended up doing a rebuild on it. Gave it back tuned and running sweet on Aspen.
He couldnt beleive the difference and better than a new saw, sadly we cant get Aspen in the welsh valleys so he is back to old stale petrol and crap oil, just waiting for him to ring me and say the saw wont start
Hi,
Keep checking the dealer map as we are adding new shops all the time!
Kind regards

Aspen is only available in 5litre or 200l cans in the UK.
25 litre cans have been looked into, but the price per litre would be no less than in 5litre cans.
Some dealers may offer a small discount on a reasonable size order of 5litre cans. It may pay to ask.
Hi,
We can not supply 25 litres of Aspen in plastic cans.
Aspen Sweden only use recyclable plastics and this is ok for Europe but not here.
If you buy 54x 5litre can your supplying dealer can arrange for free delivery and give you a discount off RRP.
This saves you time mixing and collecting fuel.

Check your spark plugs and you'll see it can't be good.
BP super unleaded in today and it's running like a dream.
Interested Eddie, who's my nearest dealer?
Type your post code into our dealer locator on the Aspen website and it will list all the dealers with your chosen range 10 or 25 miles etc.....

I have bought a stihl 362 its a second hand 2010 model it previously had not been used with aspen fuel, previous owner mixed their own.
I only really want to use aspen as I am led to believe it's better for the user, machines and environment.
Is there anything I should do before putting aspen fuel in and starting it up or will it it be ok to just fill her up and go?
Machine generally looks ok theres no scoring on piston etc, there's no fuel in tank currently except for a little remnants.
Any help greatly appreciated thanks
Hamilton
Hi,
Good advise but you could just run Aspen and see if you need to change these parts as many people have switched to Aspen and not had any need to change any parts.
You may need to adjusted the idle stop screw (LA) and or the low speed mixture (L)
I would suggest you put aspen in and see "IF" you need to make any adjustments.
If you have any questions please call me on 07568108953 or email [email protected]
Loads of common questions are answered on our website under Q&A

It is great to see the change in attitude towards Aspen over the past few years.
Three years ago, whenever Aspen was mentioned on this forum it was 'flamed' by many members and some quite 'heated' threads developed.
Some of us with a knowledge of the product stood our ground whilst several outspoken members with no knowledge of the product at all did their best to put it down with claims of Aspen ruining saws.
Whenever we tried to warn of the shortcomings of 'pump fuel' we were often shouted down. Many failed to believe that there was any problem with petrol, either for their saws or their health.
So I am very pleased to see mostly very positive comments about Aspen now and that the shortcomings of petrol are now accepted.
This has certainly been the year that Aspen has turned the corner and 'come of age' and nationwide sales have reached a record high.
I predict that in another 3 years it will be accepted in the UK as the primary fuel for use in hand held equipment with petrol seldom being used.
With this in mind it is really worth signing the petition now in the hope that the tax can be withdrawn or reduced before you all start using it.
If you do not support the petition there is little chance, but there may be some chance if you do.
Well said Barrie!
I have found the same from Arb Talk to dealers to possible customers, things have changed for the better.
We are trying to fill in gaps on the dealer map and if you check out the "one reason I use Aspen" thread you will see the new dealers as I add them.
Better still use the post code finder on our website to see where the dealers are.
Please ask your local dealer if you have a bit of a drive as this helps me when I contact them to see if they would like to stock Aspen. If they know there is demand they will stock it.
Please contact me direct if you have any Aspen questions on 07568108953 or [email protected]
I am here to help.
Thanks for all your support!

I Am now a member of the club, just need to name the little beast.
Been thinking about runing it on the blue aspen fuel, What do you think on that or just normal pump fuel
If you run on Aspen4 (the blue one) you will not have any fuel related breakdowns and it will keep on working all year round.
It will be easier to start and run better.
Engine wear will be reduced and many users are telling me their machines are more economical running on Aspen.
One reason I use Aspen
