Cheers Russ, how’s things mate, not heard from you in ages

    All good Si,

Been working with Clay rather than the saws. Hope to get back carving in the next few weeks, potential work on a commission for a school so best get the saws out soon.

  2. I spend time on the main features of an owl, the face, the feathers and the feet, your picture shows the feet unfinished I would imagine, the crest you have done a good job on, the eyes are deep in the face which gives the character to the carving, the feathers are good but the tail feathers need finishing at the same time as the talons, make the talons a feature.

That's my opinion and no offence meant :thumbup1:

    Hey Ian,

no offence taken, just glad of the feedback. I get really frustrated at what I produce as it's never the same as what's in my head. Many thanks for the comments and if you have any tips on shaping the talons. Do you use saw, dremel or carving chisels?

  3. Had a little bit of free time earlier today. So worked on this. Still not quite what I hoped, they never are.

Still finished and sold before I could transform him into firewood.

    looking good now its finished

Many thanks, still not what I had in my head, but other people seem to want to buy them as I make them.

    Thanks again

  4. I'm on my second Proxon long knock grinder, motor blew on the first one, not up to any heavy pressure use the replacement for very very light touch sanding with sabur disc. Recently bought an Arbortech mini grinder and was quite impressed with first use, not so impressed with second use as it started spluttering and today's third use it simply packed up. Had it since 9th Jan and it's going back tomorrow.

I like the new Stihl carving bar which is very similar to an r7 tip and I love it, using power tools less and less because of it.
