Have a word with armchairarborist he has a large piece of cockspur thorn there might be enough to make a few

First of all dont let it put you off.
The first decent piece I turned spilt and ended up in the log burner.
I now have a good stock of 2 year seasoned wood in the garage, I found if anything was made with wood stored less than this developed crack's and splits.
When you turn something gradually bring it indoors starting in the coldest room then moving to some where warmer to avoid rapid drying.
Buy a few kiln dried pieces in, I'm sure a few people on here would be able to help you.

Those on ebay look ok to me they should clean up easy enough with a bit of emery cloth and a good smear of grease on the screw and quick release lever.

This thread seems to be a " no brainer "

Very nice saw it on your woodwork post, just hope I can make it as nice as yours.

Think I've just found a use for that big lump of ekki I got given now
-
Thanks for that, I looked on the database but could'nt make my mind up what it was.
Not a bad piece of wood to be given for firewood though, just need to think of what to do with it now.

Looks good, know someone who might be interested in that

2 year old thread and nets more or less same price

File or grind a round steel bar to fit inside the curved part, drill 2 tapping size holes in the bar and clamp this to the handle, then with the same size drill go through both holes again this time going through the handle as well.tap both the handle and steel bar at the same time with the clamp still in place.
Use some loctite bearing fit on the screws, I would use allen cap heads, also pour a bit of bearing fit all round the steel bar and leave to cure for 24 hours.
Looking at the size use either 4 or 5 mm screws.

Not wanting to derail but seem to remember somebody looking for a VB36

I have used a few bags of these in the past, mainly because I was running low on logs, found them to be very good at getting the stove up to working temp. but that was about all. They are very soft and break when you look at them, burn for about 20 mins., and cover the floor with dust.
Only paid £2 for 10k bag and thats about all they were worth

Hornbeam

How can that be relevant ?

i could quite easily cut some blanks from one of them, they're only 5' long so i would only get 4-5 blanks out of a plank.
Lathe won't take above 10" but would be interested in 2 or 3 that size, but don't want to take anything that you have plans for.
-
Dont know if its been mentioned before, when looking at a list of posts could it be set so that it opens in a new window/tab? Would save having to go back to main listings.
-
Not used either of those finishes but would use the one on the right when you let us know what it is.
-
Thanks for the offer, a few planks would last me ages, but if you have some smaller pieces after you've cut what you need that would be great.

Like that a lot, will have to keep a lookout for some of it, might help clear my sinusitis up a bit.

Once got told you can burnish with a brass rod but not tried it myself, might be worth a go on the underneath.
