  1. I change the leaders for the secondaries each time I change, the tertiaries I leave until blunt.

That sounds like a good method. :thumbup1:

Im not one for sharpening them either, it just so happened my local hire shop offered to do them for £2 a tooth, still, even with a good tickle up they are no where near the performance of a new tooth.

Box of 50 seems to be the way to go.

  2. What machine are you using? I think the small pedestrian has four teeth total.

    The 450/460 has 6 teeth.

I have a 450 and only change one leading tooth when the machine stops cutting efficiently.

I change the clearing teeth when I notice they are really rounded off or broken.

    sp4012

Has 8 cutters, more of a squashed 50p shape.

  3. Only two off them cut and two clear but when all 4 are brand new there is a difference in time but now worth changing change all 4

They say change all 4 every every time by using the clearers with the last used teath

I have never sharpen mine not worth it

Is your a 4 tooth square wheel? Mine a little different as has about 8 in total ( maybe 10) and is more of an oval shape

  4. Their design is good at clearing debris.

It is difficult to get at the non leading edges to sharpen.

Next time you buy new teeth try replacing the multi-tips with Rhino teeth. Much better.

I do use old multi-tips on the 'inner' slots of the wheel just to clear/rake out the debris.

I've found the performance/cost balance of this set-up works well.

It is really easy to sharpen the Rhinos

I might try a pair of Rhinos next time.

Do you ever change the non leading / inner teeth then? Im thinking of leaving mine completely and simply changing the 2 important ones.

Be great to see a side on slow mo vid of this head in action

  5. New grinder came with multi tip teeth, I like them but want to fine tune the use of them.

I understand that the 2 leading edges do the work, and these two need to be sharp. What about the others?

I did a test and removed all of my teeth and had a local shop grind them good, as best as they could. Seemed to be no difference in cutting performance.

So do the non leading edges really just clear the waste? is it even worth having these made sharp or just leave them clearing until theres no metal left on them?

Its great being able to change just 2 leading teeth in 3 mins and have a seemingly new machine but not sure how to get best value from this system.

    Input please :thumbup1:

  6. In brief,

Lady has a cherry tree in very close proximity to a wall, wall and tree both around 25 years old. Wall now has significant lean.

I wont bore with the other details but a report is needed as to the fact the tree is effecting the wall and a plan of action to remedy.

Structural engineers tell her to get a "tree person" to create the report but a remedy pan is also required (engineering background needed!)

Any advice that i can pass on?

  7. Wrong. Facebook is dominated by the middle-aged. not sure its much use for finding work but deffo not just the domain of teenagers anymore.. They probably have something else...

FB's user base is generally older than many think, younger generations tend to use other social platforms ( Twitter, snapchat etc) as the main outlet.

Having regularly updated social media is important, google will see every reaction with a post, every like, every comment, the page you went to before and after you did any of the above.

All of that will organically ( thats without paying) get you further up Google search results.

Its very quick and simple to set up a few social media accounts, most of all free, keep them active and updated.

  8. Is it possible to redirect the exhaust more away from the operator? Bit of flexi pipe on the end to change the direction it blows?

    Did consider it.

Main issue is the exhaust is forward facing, the throttle control and manual clutch lever are also on the front side of the engine. So, to either knock back the revs, or engage the clutch requires leaning around the front of the engine inches from the exhaust getting a face full each time.

But yes, a 90 degree bend on the tip may well help things.

  9. I bought one of these a while ago and it's brilliant. Comfortable, seals well (the seal can be checked with the clickable filters), easy to breathe. You'd need to select the right filter for your application (for diesel fumes & stump grinding dust).

    Hope this helps.

    cheers, Steve

Thanks Steve, ill check it out

Sounds like your chipper engine is warn out Matt. May I recommended a new Timberwolf 230, it's a great machine.

Chippers fine John, its the grinder that gives me a face full.
