  1. What's the best material for building a light, durable and cost effective chip box which as well as collecting chip will also take loads of wood so needs to be strong enough to take a bit of a knock. Thanks in advance.
  2. Looking at buying a mobile sawmill in 2015. Any suggestions on what are best for mobility and access as I'd like to mill stuff on a variety of different sites. Got an Alaskan already so looking for something a bit faster. Band or Circular saw? Thanks in advance.
  3. Any decent groundsman or climbers available to work for an established tree surgeon in Southampton. Please email me [email protected] Many thanks. 😀
  4. Hi, we are a small company based between Portsmouth and Southampton. Our workload is currently booming so we are in need of some sub contractual climbers for steady work. If your interested or know anyone that might be suitable please get in touch. Thanks Dean. [email protected]
  5. Southampton. But work across all of southern Hampshire.
  6. Can anyone recommend any good sub contractor climbers in the south of Hampshire?
  7. I have a similar deal for my yard rent. About 50 Lombardi poplars to pollard. The agreement is that I get the yard to store timber/logs etc and in exchange I have to pollard 1 tree a month. Ive taken about 6 down and sold about 8 loads to a guy down the road who was after cheap firewood. Got £20 a load delivered. Better than a kick in the teeth. If this deal falls through I'll just mix it in as suggested above.
  8. Hi arbtalkers, I know from reading some of the threads on here that a few of you already hire out your splitters. Any hints or tips on insurance or paperwork that I might need to put in place before I do? Also is it a worthwhile business venture or more trouble than it's worth. Thanks in advance.
  9. Hi arbtalkers, Hoping to pick your brains. Im looking to purchase a log splitter to process firewood for sale and my own personal consumption. Have been looking at a few options I like the look of called the supa splitter and the splitfire. From the names you can probably tell they are from the US/Canada. The supa splitter is a belt driven splitter which splits ringed wood faster using a belt driven system that splits wood in 2, and the splitfire is a hydraulic system which splits in both directions using either a 2 or 4 way splitter. Links below show the supa splitter first and splitfire second for those who have not seen either. I am swaying towards the split fire because of its 4 way splitting option and I feel that it is probably safer if I decide to higher the machine out. Does anyone have any options that might compete from the UK? As I would save a fortune on shipping and taxes. Thanks in advance. Th
  10. Yeh i'd be interested in seeing picture too. Based in Southampton.
  11. Hi arbtalkers, I've been looking at buying a log splitter to process firewood for sale. I have seen some innovative designed machines across the pond for between 2 and 3k which either split rings into 4 logs in both directions (the splitfire 3455) or have a very fast turnaround speed (the supa splitter). Both seem like great machines but i have not had any chance to test either. Any reviews or reccomendations?? Or does anyone know of any similar, preferably towable machines that are sold in the UK so that I can save money on shipping and taxes. Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks for the info guys. Seen the ray meats show and a few other good you tube videos. It is indeed the betula ( however you spell it) species that is needed. Wish it was silver birch? Then it would be easy. Loads of them. I'm pretty sure all the other supplies can be sourced locally but any links or suggestions anyone has will be much appreciated. Great job on the canoe Canoehead. Must be really satisfying.
  13. Hi, I'm a tree surgeon in the south of England. I would like to try and construct a birch bark canoe. However White birch bark is a little hard to find in the UK. If not impossible. If anyone knows different, please let me know. If not does anyone know suppliers that may be able to source it for the UK. Thanks in advance arbtalkers.
