Background:
Enterprise, the infrastructure services company has joined forces with Peterborough City Council in a 23 year partnership to deliver key frontline services to the local community. Services to be delivered include: household waste and recycling collection, street cleaning, property design and maintenance, grounds maintenance and a range of other services. The aim of the strategic partnership is to improve these services, while providing the best value for taxpayers. Peterborough is a city working towards becoming the Environment capital and as such is placing huge value on the condition and maintenance of its substantial green spaces.
Objective:
The objective of this permanent post is to provide the Parks, Trees and Open Spaces team with an important up to date tree survey of trees under the remit of Enterprise Peterborough. Highways trees alone total approximately 16,000. Subject to efficient delivery of the tree surveys there may be an opportunity to provide assistance to the Parks, Trees and Open Spaces team in the everyday management of the city’s tree stock.
This permanent post will offer an opportunity to gain considerable experience in tree surveying and could include experience in dealing with the public, Tree Preservation Orders, Conservation Area applications, and the day to day management of the city’s tree stock. Enterprise Peterborough are looking to extend their capability in managing Peterborough’s tree stock and as such you will be well-placed for professional growth and development opportunities.

Outputs:
To provide a completed tree survey to the Parks, Trees and Open Spaces team of the city’s highways tree stock
To provide expert/professional advice in tree related topics to the Parks, Trees and Open Spaces team and on occasion to members of the public and other stakeholders.
Essential Selection Criteria:
A LANTRA profession tree inspector’s course is essential plus one of the following (or similar which would have covered tree survey techniques and provide and understanding of risk identification in line with tree condition surveys): • RFS certified arborist • ISA certified arborist • AA Tch CertNC (Arb)/ND (Arb) • HNC/HND/FDSc Candidates without the Lantra qualification will however be considered if their experience and qualifications demonstrates an appropriate high level of competency for this post
Candidates must hold a valid UK driving licence
Physically able to work for prolonged periods outdoors at the roadside whilst surveying trees
Experience or knowledge carrying out tree condition surveys.
Experience or knowledge in formulating technical reports for tree related inspections.
A good understanding of maps and I.T. Experience of working with handheld surveying devices.
Determination; to succeed in delivering high volume and quality tree surveys in line with project targets and deadlines.
Diplomacy. Ability to manage complaints and difficult situations in line with the Enterprise Peterborough’s policies and established practices.
Candidates must be able to work in and around the Peterborough area Monday to Friday.
