  7. Theres an ancient woodland that adjoins my uncles farm. It is made up almost entirely of syc and imo holds very little wildlife. No ground flora lots of rhodie. You see the occasional muntie or red, a few jays and the odd great tit but thats about it!

was that aimed at me? if so That land that I had planned is free draining. but there is also some wet boggy ground that would suit bat willow. My only problem now is ground preparation. we have all the machinery to plant and maintain (subsoiler and topper) but no way of getting rid of weeds?

  16. Whats the best way to go about getting a grant for woodland creation and SRC? Do I have to just send an application off or will the FC send someone out to discuss options? Im in the midlands if that helps. Cheers Jack.

no deer. I think it will grow if you stick it in and walk away, but If you want to maximise your returns you have to put a bit of work in?

just been reading through that website. I have use of a tractor with a topper and could get a subsoiler so that would be my prefered choice (spaying the planting strips and mow inbetween them) however I would like to get the planting done this spring but I havent done any spraying. is there another way of clearing the weeds from the planting strips?

I was thinking about growin some willow with wood production in mind. Is it a goer or a non starter? ie is the end product any good? got some cut about a week ago to see, but It wont be burnt til next year. also what hybrid is best and ways to grow etc. land isnt an issue got all types to put it on; grass, unimproved grass, woodland etc. also no deer present and very few rabbits. Cheers Jack.
