  1. hi i have also been thinking about going in this direction in the next few years. I looked for information the other day and struggled to find any thing of much help could you guys suggest the best place to get clear and correct info. thanks
  2. Thanks for the course provider now just to find a loler inspector who's close
  3. So no loler inspectors in the shropshire area? Might have to do a loler course then!
  4. Hi i am looking for a loler inspector in the south Shropshire area does anyone know of any. Also can anyone suggest a centre or college in the same area that offers the utility courses-power line etc thanks
  5. I know when I was at college (Holme lacy) they ran a level 2 course which was only a yearlong. It allowed you to gain the basic practical qualifications (cs30’1’8 and 9) whilst studying. The course was aimed at people who wanted to get into the industry but didn't want to continue to higher education thus not needing to get a level 3 qual (the two year course you mentioned) but who also want to gain some theory instead of just doing their tickets. I know most of the guys on that course where also doing it as it worked out a lot cheaper than just doing the tickets on their own. Hope that helps it’s another option for you.
  6. Christ you guys got the wrong end of the stick. Hes just wants to no what people in different areas make a day he getting figures from people who he works with in the forestry industry not what you make in a year but if any one wants to give there bank details that’s fine
  7. Hi one of the other students on my course is surveying what people in the forestry and arb sector make up and down the country. As he’s in forestry he asked me to put a post on here to get your views. He’s looking for wages for – • Employed • Sub-contractor with own kit • Sub-contractor with out kit For the different job types- • Climber • Second climber/groundie • Experienced groundie • Newbie If you could put where your from what job you do and how much you earn that would be great if you know what other jobs make in your area that would be even better thanks
  8. Hi thanks for the reply’s lots more ideas so thanks. For most of the people i work with and for me personally i only buy things that i have been shown how to use. if it’s something that if it fails/goes wrong it’s not life threatening e.g. hand ascenders for locks etc I might just watch a video but for anything that’s keeping me in the tree I want to know all the ins and outs of it. There’s only one of us who’s a kit junkie so its mostly just tried and tested. I think if a day with an equipment rep would be great idea especially as the last few arb shows I haven’t been able to get to so local days would be great.
  9. Thanks arborholic i hadn't thought about the trade shows will add that to the list. i know i keep putting up similar links but seems only a few people want to answer each one might have to put up a few more to get enough answers!
  10. Hi I was wondering where people get there info on how to use new bits of kit. Do you just use the instructions that come with the piece of kit or do you research it elsewhere. I have seen there are lots of videos on youtube for all types of kit but most are just Joe bloggs showing off. How do you guys choose where to get your info from thanks chris

    What do you do?

Sorry to disappoint you all but I haven’t broke anything I am doing a course and part of it is to research something within the industry, I have chosen to look into what people’s views are on what sort of training, instruction or demo they think is needed for new pieces of kit they haven’t been trained in i.e. since there cs38/9 etc. I am also going to try and find out the ‘official’ view to find out if we are actually covered if we haven’t been trained in using new kit.

    What do you do?

Most of the time i just buy through companies website so I don’t get to try the kit or speak to a assistant. Does anyone know if you are covered by insurance if you don’t get any training or shown how to use the equipment by the supplier?
  14. Hi just wondering what everyone does when they get new equipment for climbing or rigging. Do you get someone to demonstrate it or train you in its use or do you just give it a go?
  15. I am currently studying a course in Arboriculture for one of my final pieces of work I am to focus upon a particular work-related project and to report upon it. As while studying I work as a tree surgeon I am interested in the new equipment in the industry and the view on what sort of training or demonstration/instruction is needed to use the equipment. If possible could anyone suggest/list the new pieces of equipment they have brought or wish to buy that they were not shown how to use in there CS38/CS39 courses i.e. mechanical pruisk etc Also if you could comment on what sort of training or demonstration/instruction you think is necessary. Also any other new pieces of equipment that you would like to comment on or any other views or comments on the subject it would be very helpful. Thanks Chris
