Small world, my parents are just around the corner in Eynsford.

I make the oak 1"1/16 on average, but some of the mill cuts are a bit deep. If you aimed to plane down to 15/16th I'm sure that would level them out, I'd like to keep as much thickness as I can.

I was expecting to sand the boards after so some small marks are fine.

I'll try to post a pic for you as that always helps.

Yes the mantelpiece will be rustic. 38mm is a bit thin 50mm is more what I'm after.

A 3" thick piece planed would be great (if I tell the gf its 2" she'll believe me)

We have a flat tarmac drive you can work on or if its raining I can clear the garage so you can set up in the dry.

Thanks

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place. If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom, then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
