Well the ICoPs out for review .. section 2.9
-
Oh .. that's a point. Once we leave Europe are will allowed to use non CE approved equipment?
-
Done. Nice to see we can ride the crane hook (if appropriate).
Section 2.9 is still a little ambiguous.

Imagine for a moment......leaning out along a big limb, standing on your spikes cutting with a 70cc saw at full revs during a dismantle, your mainline slips off a stub further up in the canopy - shockloading the Asap line, the Asap line is suddenly dynamically loaded with your weight plus the saw weight, the absorber deploys. You fall onto the Asap line clattering yourself against the trunk with the 70cc saw running full revs. Not a great scenario to find yourself in.
.
But I have a side strop...? Anyway enough of this .. end ex.

"this is not the answer" ..
No the answer is "bury your head in the sand and write it on your risk assessment" which is basically what an AA approved member is saying. No names.
And please, don't get me wrong, I'm against it as much as the next man but I'd quite like my employers insurance to payout and him not have to lose his house doing it.

Pete,
the Petzl Asap and other similar fall arrest devices are not the solution to the twin rope issue.
The Asap doesn’t need to be attached to a dorsal attachment but that’s beside the point.
The idea that you lock it off when work positioning and it suddenly becomes a work positioning device is dangerous.
Warren is using his with an add on shock/energy absorber which is even worse when you stop to consider the ramifications of it suddenly releasing/activating when he’s using a big saw along a heavy lateral limb during a dismantle.
That means you have to use it 100% of the time with the figure 8 in situ - thereby negating the fall arrest aspect of it and rendering it pointless as a shadowing secondary back up line. You’d be better going back to your wrench setup.
Ok. Valid points and I'm not arguing with any of them. In answer tho... the petzl asap and petzl asap lock are 2 different things, don't get them confused. I'm not suggesting they are the answer. They worked for me in a tree on Friday without issue. From reading this I feel you think that is my 1 and only working system. It's not. My primary will be the zz ddrt (less the retrieval ball) and a side strop. On stems I will be and have used the ddrt zz and 2 strops. Re fig 8 - that will sit on my harness until god forbid I need it. As regards work positioning on the 'lock' .. that's what it's designed for (as well as the windy situations mentioned in videos), but again rope1 and strop will be used as they always have been. The absorber won't deploy until needed . I put my full weight on it and it didn't move.
Believe me .. if I ever feel unsafe using it it'll go in the cupboard and stay there.

Also, how do you plan to descend out of the tree on the ASAP if you cut your main line?
.
Figure 8 descender. Or sit there awaiting rescue within 15mins ?

So, where do you stand with PUWER regs and LOLER if you are adding an extra bridge to a harness that was originally designed and supplied with only one? by doing that you are "modifying" the harness, If the extra one failed or the harness failed for some reason I bet that issue will be brought up!
Yep, no doubt. When I have to buy a new harness it will have to be with a double bridge.
I too originally thought about the short rope option, changing anchor points as required but that's another rope and another rope guide/cambium saver and 2 X double friction over branches.
We'll see, the asap lock maybe a white elephant but at least it's a frictionless way of using a second rope at the moment (which is what all the fuss is about after all). I'm not suddenly gonna become unsafe after all this time up trees.

Self locks when falling. Videos on YouTube. Can lock in place for working.

It'll follow your (2nd) rope and you as it's attached to your bridge by the sorber.

I have a butterfly harness that only has 1 bridge so I used a 10mm rope (thickest prussic loop I had) with fishermans knots through the webbing loops following the path of the metal shackles of the original bridge and added a ring on it ("I you like it, should have put a ring on it..ah ah ah") but I digress.
The petzl ASAP Lock and sorber 40 (you have to have either the 20 or 40 sorber (lanyard)) sits on a semi static rope. I had a Yale imori rope available so I used that.
The ASAP Lock attaches midline and follows you. You can lock it off for work positioning with the push of a button.
My main line is ddrt with a zz and rope guide.
I dabble with srt but don't like the really taught line right in front of my face which to me just seems very vunerable(?). It's stupid I know but that's how it is. Maybe it's because it's semi static and looks stretched as opposed to a static line that doesn't deform as much.
P.s. it has been pointed out to me that a retrieval ball within the vicinity of the zz is verboten. Oh well. Don't copy that then. In fact don't copy anything in case it's wrong and you sue me (p.p.s. if you do .. I'm not worth much).

The bungee cord has snapped on my haas. I don't know what it is technically to search for it. I've asked at chandler's (boat shops) but their bungee/ shock cord is little strands not 4mm thick rubber.
Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

@mark skyland.
The petzl ASAP Lock gets the thumbs up ?????? from me. Much easier than feeding an srt setup and you can lock if off when you need to. You almost don't know it's there (other than feeding the extra line about obviously).
And a 2nd bridge helps with the crossing of kit.
Thanks for the goodies too.

Would this help ...

Looks like your carabiners in the wrong hole on the triple pulley. Should be the bottom hole or is that normal for srt. Iv never climbed srt soz lol.
Yep it's right for srt.
I only had 1 bridge today reducing a big poplar and got twisted a few times when I changed tree sides. I've just added a second bridge (which will probably invalidate something somewhere) to see if that eases things. But yes rope management is a 'mare. Add in a rigging system and it gets really fun.

So .. equipment manufacturers ... Are you getting this ...
2 bridges with further support for a fall arrester without being a full body harness for those unable to wear them...
-
No, only 1 on a butterfly. Guess I'll have to plan my route around the tree a bit better (or accept it's a pita that happens)
-
Oh well .. we'll see. Can't wear a fbh cos of a badly healed collarbone injury.
Anyway .. today .. reducing a very big poplar with rigging .. went ok til you have to remove one of your 2 anchor points .. now what HSE?
Keep crossing the systems on the bridge and having to reset them. System doesn't lend itself to trees.

As a supplier and hopefully someone with more knowledge of the systems available across the irata stuff too maybe you can suggest things.????
.. and it's good for your business too .. as I've just added another 162 to your bank balance ?

Me too!
I would like to add a lot more to this thread but not at this time of night.
It is a huge step back for the industry to say the least.

Anyone tried this with 2*srt systems yet?
