  1. "Unit 30..2 Crosscut and stack small diameter timber using a chainsaw

For cross cutting there must be sufficient timber on site for cross cutting and at least one piece of timber must have a diameter of 200-380mm (8”-15”) to accommodate a boring cut to sever log

    8. Crosscut timber under guidebar length to a given specification."

The above is all taken from the NPTC CS30 Assessment Schedule on theri website.

In summary it would indicate that 380mm (15") is the max. size of timber to be cross-cut under a CS30 ticket. However, as we all know and all do, much larger timbers are cut in reality.

Consider obtaining CS32 would be my advice which states:

"Crosscut stems over guidebar length in diameter to a given specification."

Hope this to be of use.

    Cheers..

Sensible advice, dont get ideas above your station, do it right. :thumbup1:

  2. Out of interest, do the police or highways people have a contract with an arb company in each area? I'm not trying to get in on the business, just curious.

I believe you can register/give your details to the police to be called out on emergency tree work. Not sure what the full details are, might be worth starting a new thread as I'm sure some one on the forum will know

Just phone the police ( non emergancy line) they'll add you to their contacts list, they'll ask what you can do and what you charge per hour.

  3. Once he reads this i recon he,ll offer you a contract well done matey, nice post .

Lol, I'm not after a contract, its just so suprising to be paid wot most climbers deserve to be paid. We've all worked for guys that just want to make a buck or ten fron us, its refreshing to meet someone who understands the job and doesn't make you feel resentful!

  4. I've just done 2 days work for a guy on this site. The first day i felt that i didnt earn my money! Today, i felt i did, but was then given an extra 20 quid! I couldnt believe it! I have always felt under valued when employed by other people but today i can honestly say that i felt guilty accepting the money! Especially ater the job was called of on Monday and anyone could have topped that hedge!

I hope i get to work with him again, he's got good lads too!:thumbup:

  5. I think your all being a bit harsh. My daughter is a student in Bristol and I have found it not that bad.

I'm only winding him up, I was referring more to his little plot..... the graveyard and sometimes nursing home for old vw's  Its quite a nice city as cities go!

  6. Before i got into tree work i worked for Lord Mountbatten, not the famous one but Lord Ivor Mountbatten who holds the title now. Repointed the chimneys at Birdbrook, lovely guy, he used to bring us tea when we were up the scaffolding:thumbup:

Tree wise, i've topped the conifers right behind Red Rum's stable for Ginger Mcaine, he asked if we'd mind doing a cash job while doing powerline clearance through his land.
