polish pete posted a topic in Employment
I'm looking for someone with Lolered climbing kit for few coming jobs. I will climb all the trees, just need someone with rescue capability and usual ground work. Work is in South Cumbria between Broughton in Furness and Kendal. Get in touch for more details. Cheers Peter -

Out of interest how do mobileTrakmets compare to Woodmizer? Are they very expensive? -

Wow, you're my inspiration! I do loke to swing my axe on some nice straight logs as a very relaxing activity. Agreed here on processor, I seem to be bringing more wood from jobs and it's becoming a part of my income (plenty of woodburners in Cumbria). I want to make it as efficient as possible. Typical processors are limited on width of logs and that's where this box wedge seems to be a cool idea with top of the log coming back with the return of the piston. -

My mate has one of these, nice idea with vertical-horizontal system. Good for the oversized arb waste rings in vertical but the horizontal seems to be slow. I use vertical one (forgot the name) with waist high table to operate. Pretty good if you don't have to lift big rings. I was thinking about second machine just to deal with big stuff on the floor. I have a 16hp Iseki tractor that could power something. But it just adds to the whole system. This box wedge looks very handy. -

Yeah, I've seen worse road legal trailers on roads🙃 I have Timbery m100 sawmill on a road legal trailer and it looks fragile. Was your Trakmet mobile? We have a large, stationary, electric one on our estate. Well built. I looked at the mobile version it looks chunky, over 2 tonnes in weight. Rock Machinery stuff seems to be reasonable well made, I just thought it's not the fastest the vertical-horizontal ones. -

That's Plan B. But it would save extra fuel if I could tow one thing. Eastonmade would be the choice. But the price... -

Which probably is a hassle if they sell it without approval. Is it a more substantial axle, tow hitch? -

I contacted Rock Machinery and that's what they told me- it has Indespension units but it's not road towable. -
Hi everyone, Rock Machinery have this new splitter that looks like a copy of Eastonmade. Box wedge seems to be a pretty efficient setup combined with a conveyor belt. It's not the cheapest and the splitter is not legally road towable. My questions: how hard would it be to make it road legal? Are there any other brands in UK making something similar? Cheers Peter

Thanks for pointers. It is Lucas Mill. Swing blade. Doesn't relate to chainsaw qualifications. I think a good risk assessment, method statement should give them enough confidence that I know how to use it...

Thanks for your replies. It's Natural England. I do regular tree surgery and coppicing/felling work for them. Part of the annual woodland management is fencing around freshly cut areas. Normally they provide materials but I thought I could get some extra work with my Lucas Mill. It also ticks their box of using available materials. I will talk to them about experience rather than paper tickets. They are supportive, it's just that they have to follow their paperwork framework...

I provide mobile milling services. I use bandsaw mill, chainsaw mill and most recently swing blade Lucas. One of my regular clients asked for RAMS and qualifications. I can write risk assessment and method statement but is there any recognised qualification similar to Nptc?

Thanks Jase, Silly me, it looked obvious but I thought it was a solid lump of metal. Thanks

Hi everyone, I recently bought a second hand Greenmech Quadchip chipper. I love the turntable and light weight. It also chips everything we throw at it. I was doing some basic maintenance yesterday. Greasing points, tightening of roller spring. I was trying to get to disc blades but apart from the access hole at the front (allen key side) I didn't know how to access the whole flywheel. On Greenmech video you can lift the whole cover but it doesn't seem to be the case on mine. I'm attaching few photos. Thanks for any help Peter

Hi, I'm looking for someone with felling, chipper, 1st aid, rigging experience, aerial rescue. My work is a mixture of domestic arb and woodland conservation. Some jobs only require basic cutting, others experience with rigging. I'm interested in getting few contacts on free lance basis when needed. I mainly work in South Cumbria, North Lancashire and Yorkshire. Rate based on experience.

That's very handy, thank you! Unfortunately I can't find a 4x4 front axle in 2160 catalogue...
-
Thanks for all the replies. As advised, bearings were easy to source locally. And one of the seals. Hopefully 2 other seals will be now available in Holland. I got 1 last sprocket from Poland but nobody can tell me if there will be another one available at any time... I'll try to see which other tractors match Iseki tx2160. If I was to get the sprocket made, can you suggest any place in UK? Cheers

I'm not sure if it's classed as large machinery but I'll try here🙂 I bought Iseki 2160 to use for tree/yard work. Unfortunately front wheels have been badly neglected and need few parts to get it right. Does anyone know good source of oarts for these machines? I need cogs, seals, bearings. Are parts from 2160 interchangeable with other brands? I have Kubota dealer near me. Thanks for any input 👍

Hi everyone, it seems to be a difficult season this time. Normally I rely on a couple of large conservation woodland contracts for Natural England or Wildlife Trusts plus domestic tree surgery jobs. But this season one of contracts fell through last minute and I'm struggling to source other work to patch up gaps in my diary. My main activities are tree surgery and conservation woodland work. I'm qualified and experienced with most of aspects of tree pruning and removal (apart from crane work) and usual felling work. Cs30,31,32,34,38,39,41. I've done some commercial forestry but I wouldn't call myself a forester. Apart from medium/large, windblown chainsaw tickets I have skidder and forwarder FMOG tickets, most of my experience is on Logbullet mini forwarder. I'm used to running my own coppicing, conservation contracts and general running of a small scale arb set up. My arb journey took me to RFS Arb Cert, ISA Cert Arb (expired by now) and Lantra Professional Tree Inspection award. I also passed Qtra course but I don't have my cert as it was paid and held by a company I worked for at the time. It was just a short time surveying trees for councils, mainly tapping a tablet. Another line of work is milling. I own 47" Alaskan mill with Stihl 880 powerhead and Timbery mobile bandsaw. I provide mobile milling services and occasionally work on larger Trakmet mill based in Witherslack. I also had a couple of years of experience doing some telecom work. We were travelling around UK doing line of sight work for emergency network. Bat surveying work- no bat licence but I did both ground and aerial work, one of them being HS2. I had Irata l1 and CSCS but I never got much work out of it not being the greatest fun of night shifts for large companies. I run L200 tipper truck with old Schlesing 220 chipper and Riko fast tow trailer. At this point I'm looking at getting my HGV licence. I'm looking at some work or networking opportunities. Happy to provide a self contained team or do some subby work in any aspect of tree related work. Also quite interested in people's suggestions on new paths. As being newly married I'd prefer to stay local to Cumbria but I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance for any input!

That's a good point about winches- I'm not lifting or lowering anything! Let's see what the health and safety man says...

Does anyone know where in Cumbria/North Lancs I can get my hand and petrol winches Loler tested? New contract requirement...

Hi Josh, It's 180 degrees. I decided to keep it and figure out some sort of flat bed arrangement. Handy to pick up lengths and looks like I have some bits of larch to collect and mill this autumn.

I do a mixture of arb and woodland management work. I'm looking for new contacts with few self employed chainsaw operators of various levels of experience: from basic coppicing through medium trees felling to rigging and climbing. Rates depending on experience. Work is mainly based in South Cumbria, North Lancashire. Cheers Peter

I thought about it but it would be pretty high and I want something to transport a compact tractor or tracked chipper.
