  1. could be way off the mark with this but the op photos resemble Capnobotrys dingleyae (syn Hormiscium pinophylum/ Antennaria pinophyla )

     

    which has been recorded on Yew before, and seems to occur more often in the north of the country from what i can make out,

     

    From the couple of photos I've been able to find via Google, I think you've nailed it there.

  2. Good close ups, even if Phaeolus did have an anamorph it I suspect might be more tightly grouped than this.

     

    It looks in the close up to be very similar to what Felugio septica or F candida goes to after maturation, was it puffy and fragile?

     

    Ive never seen it on Yew before and it normaly likes well rotted soft substrates and the wood here looks hard and dessicated with missing bark?

     

    It's on a live, if slightly sickly looking, yew and quite dense and spongy, not at all fragile or puffy.

  3. I use a 254xp with a 15" bar for all my firewood and it does the job nicely, I bought it second hand off Fleabay for about 200 squids I think. The one you've linked to is apparently made up of bits from various saws but should be none the worse for that.

  4. I would gladly pay an extra 10p litr to keep the farmers going, i believe in supporting them as much as possible. They help to create the countryside we all enjoy.

     

    Are you sure thats right? What happened to thousands of miles of hedgerows we used to have? Why aren't there any fish in our streams? Where have all the hay meadows gone? Why have the numbers of birds in our countryside plummetted?

    If you ask me, the majority of farmers don't 'look after the countryside' they have systematically destroyed it over the last 50 years in the persuit of profit. And the worst part about it is that the Common Agricultural Policy (our taxes) has paid them to do it!

  5. A lot of what goes into commercial dog food is just crap to bulk it out, stuff with virtually no nutritional value like sugar beet pulp. Many dog food companies are owned by large food conglomerates who basically use dog food as an alternative to landfill! There's usually a tiny amount of 'meat and animal derivatives' (look up 'chicken digest' if you haven't eaten recently). It's heated up to sterilise it and squirted out of a tube into handy 'kibbles' then sprayed with a large dose of 'EC permitted flavourings' to make sure fido doesn't turn his nose up at it.

    I haven't got the time or inclination to do the whole BARF thing so I feed my whippet on Naturediet as the next best thing. It's expensive but she doesn't eat a lot :001_smile:

I was not familiar with the stove but have now had a look on Google, nice stove, looks like a dedicated wood burner in which case you only have a control which on a multi fuel stove is known as the secondary air control, ie an air curtain only. If that is getting dirty glass then I would be surprised, if it is then talk to the manufacturer or dealer/installer that you bought it through.

     

    Morso Squirrell, a pic would enable me to id the model but Morso dont chop and change models from one decade to the next. Assuming you have only one wheel on the lower door ( primary air) you also have a lever underneath the ash lip that moves left to right that controls the secondary air inlet then you have a 1430. 1410 and 1412 models both have 2 wheels, one at the top and one at the bottom. If none of that stack up and you are having issues with black glass pm me your phone number and I will give you a bell to discuss. It may be a very old model that did not have an air sweep, Morso stoves if looked after will last 40 years plus.

    Thanks Alycidon, mine's a 1430. I've just found the instruction book for it and it seems I've been doing it wrong :001_rolleyes:. I've been controlling the speed of burn with the primary air rather than the secondary lever. When I light it tonight I'll do it by the book (apart from the bit about using 1.5 kg of kindling!).
