  1. 48 sold??????! Must be painful to refill them when burned off and you've got the stove going all day, too... ;-)

I tried paper bricks once. Worked really well, burned really hot, but took SO much work to make, and left SO much ash! Not recommended...

  2. Fibreglass repair kit? Did an oil tank for a tipper trailer proper job; guess it would be fuel proof - like rock once it's set.

edit: yes of course it's fuel resistant; had 2-stroke spillages in fibreglass boats loads a times no issues...

Spot on. There are adhesives available in the fibreglassing world that will do the job - just abrade the tank for a mechanical bond, then glue it up.

  3. Why not get yourself some marketing/business management training? Sounds like you've got the skills to deliver the business, so perhaps focus on the other side of winning and managing the business? It's the side that so many folks fall down on. Just a thought...

  4. :001_smile:Golf bag perhaps.

It will prove difficult to transport on a commercial flight since the twin towers.

How would you convince the check in staff, that you were not planning to cut a new exit door in the airliner.

I think you will be looking at couriers such as TNT or UPS but they are very expensive, and will not carry any thing that has even a wiff of petrol.

Take it to bits and ship as chainsaw parts, Parcels to Go might be worth a look.

    H-A

911 simply means you won't be able to take it as cabin baggage. Checked baggage (as in checked-in, in the hold) is fine. Hell, if you've got the permits, you can put a gun in checked baggage even.

  5. On the nail.

I stopped selling anything other than junk via ebay after being burnt just once. Buyer confirmed they received the goods and that they were fine but put in a claim for non receipt. In the court of paypal their email which acknowledged safe receipt was not admissible and they uplheld the claim and refunded them the cost of the item from my account. Why? Because I had not used a tracked service. 1st Class with proof of postage and an email saying they had received it is not good enough.

It is a great way to do your shopping, buy everything on ebay and ANY item that arrives on a non tracked service put a claim in and you WILL get your money back at the expense of honest and genuine sellers. It is all there in the small print but what a trick. Morally bankrupt.

Why didn't you just throw the Small Claims Court at them?

I've had a few issues myself: all down to the reality that there are some dishonest people out there. eBay haven't been perfect every time, but they've not been desperate either.

    Caveat emptor...

  6. Generally it means a woodland that is being managed, as opposed to the land being just raped and everything felled. Managed woodland is thinned, with new planted where old, diseased trees are taken out, and the species balance is carefully watched, too.

We've all seen hillsides that have been clear-felled and look dreadful. And we've all seen woodland left it it's own devices for decades and getting into a dreadful state. Sustainable is the middle ground.

  7. The joys of dealership!

I sold a JD ride-on in August to a chap 20 miles away.

He phones this week complaining it wont start. It stopped whilst he was using it.

I ran through the obvious things, petrol etc. He said he first thought it had run out of petrol so he went out and bought a gallon. When he took the cap off there was still some fuel but he put more in anyway. Still would not start.

So he is not happy, he says it has to be a fault with the machine and I have to fix it, which of course I am happy to do. So sent the van driver to collect it.

When it arrives in the yard I try to start it but the battery is flat by this time. Put the jump pack on and it still does not fire. I check the tank and there is about half an inch of petrol in the tank, not reaching the pick up point!

Put a gallon in and try again. Fine. I phone the guy and tell him, ask him why he did not put more fuel in. He says he did not put too much in as he did not want to waste it if it was not the problem.:confused1:

So we take it back and charge him but he pays reluctantly. Only charged him £50... includes 80miles, 3 hrs pay for van driver and 5litres of petrol, and he thinks its too much as it should be warranty:001_rolleyes:

Stay in the garden shed Spud!

    Common Sense is an oxymoron...

  8. Always wanted a scooby :D

:-) Did 212,000 miles in mine in 9 years from new before I retired her to SORN 'play' duties. Couldn't bring myself to sell her. Just need to get a knocking big end sorted and take out the last cat, then she'll be the perfect track car.

The Defender and Impreza-sized trailer have uses beyond the firewood business ;-)

  9. Hi folks. Do the autotune saws have a tendency to run lean on colder weather? Did some cutting yesterday and the thing seems to be screaming louder. It was an amazing saw a few days ago but the thing seems to be in steroids now

My Subaru Impreza was just the same. LOVED the cold weather - because the fuel injection was just like AutoTune and took advantage of it to pump in more fuel and create more power :-)

  10. I do the same thing. I only cut wood for my own persoal use, but, after considerable experimentation, I have found that splitting wood when green and stacking in this way is the quickest system to get the moisture content down to a "safe" percentage. The ends which were exposed to the rain eventually recorded the lowest moisture content once those logs had been in the house for a few days. When I say "safe" I mean a lot less problems with tar build up in my woodburner/chimney and a lot fewer lectures from my chimney sweep.

An interesting point there: "The ends which were exposed to the rain eventually recorded the lowest moisture content once those logs had been in the house for a few days".

I had some 'rails' that a delivered load were stacked on. The field was very wet in 2012 and they were utterly soaking by the time I'd cut up the wood stacked on them. I cut them up and put them aside for my own use some time in the future after what I expected would be a loooong drying process.

They dried remarkably quickly and were some of the driest logs I had that winter. While initially this appears counter-intuitive, I wonder if soaking the logs does something to the internal structures that enable them to then dry quicker - e.g. by 'jamming' the internal water transport tubes open?

  11. Well my 576xp was supplied with the grease gun and bearing grease if that helps

    Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

So was mine - but for doing the bar nose bearing. The manual is specific about oiling the clutch bearing.

I guess the answer is I need to stick to the oilcan for now :-(

Thanks for chipping in, though - appreciated

  12. Hi guys, just a quick one drawing on your experience.

My 576XP AutoTune (according to the manual) is supposed to have the needle bearing lubricated regularly by dripping engine oil into the hole in the crankshaft. No probs, have always done that - but it has always felt a bit hit-and-miss on whether anything went in.

My new 550XP's manual says to use the grease gun rather than oil. Much easier.

So, is this a change applicable to the older saw, or do I have to persist with the oil can?

    Appreciate your thoughts...

    Kind regards,

    Jeremy

  13. I always seem to get people phoning up and asking how big are your logs and what type of wood are they . Are they wet , How long have they been stored and whats the moisture content . AAARRRGGGHHHH . I sell logs you burn them simple . My advert says a delivered load of seasoned mixed logs 90% hardwood 10% softwood .

I had a lady colleague the other day greet me in the office and loudly declare: "I need some of your hard wood!" Sniggers all round...

  14. Was wondering from the aspect of the heat in the back handle having an effect. But it does seem unlikely.

Making the throttle cable stick, perhaps? A good point. If it was, it would definitely be one of those unique-to-that-saw sort of issues! But I wouldn't immediately dismiss it.

Do let us know when you get to the bottom of it!
