  1. Thats what the French do to their boundary oaks in Brittany. The big limbs are removed for firewood with one or two of the smaller branches left on - they look funny for a while but grow very quickly, like they have been put on steroids. The other way is the full pollard we are familiar with in the UK
  2. Thanks Fella's I've done done just enough to get bitten by the bug, only to realise I've processed all the firewood except for 1 last 2m log Have to wait for the autumn now before I get another load. Guy
  3. Hi All, I am new to the forum having lurked (as a member) for a while. I had 45 m3 of Beech cordwood delivered for firewood and decided to have a go at carving - thought I would share a picture of Kitty with you. She took me about 1 day using a Husky 350 with standard bar/chain and small angle grinder for smoothing. Going to stain her white and then Tung Oil. Before you ask, I live in France and run seasonal holiday accommodation on our smallholding - Kitty will live in the children's play area. I carved the Gnome for the same reason. I'm not a weirdo with a children's icon fetish http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/images/smiliesmodern/lol.gif
