  1. That's great guys, thanks for the info...
  2. Hi, i wondered if anyone had got a copy of Jerry Beranek's Working Climber - Series One. I've 'Googled' it and the only place i can find in the uk that sells it is out of stock (treeworker) - and they don't know when they can get any more. I just wondered if anyone had a copy they have seen many times / that they no longer need that they might want to sell. Cheers:001_smile:
  3. Hi - I'd be really interested in that if it is still going? Booked for my exam but am 'going it alone' as most colleges etc have stopped running the 'old' course. Cheers
  4. Hi guys, good advice yeti, love the old broom handle exercise - if you can't be bothered to make one then you can buy one for around £12 off ebay / amazon. Not sure i'd bother with grippers as unless you can find some that are adjustable you'll adapt too quickly - the old rope is great though - have one myself! Also - you've got to remember to work the opposing muscle groups as well. The grip is strengthened by all the exercises mentioned but another common problem with climbers is they actually over develop these muscles - i've seen guys that climb with hands that look like claws - permanently like they are holding something!! The best thing to do is get something like the hand-master pro as it not only works the grip (by squeezing the ball) but also works what are known as the finger extensors which helps to keep everything balanced - they come in three different strengths and are not that expensive - worth investing in if you ask me. An even cheaper way to work these muscles is by simply getting some thick elastic bands - putting them around your closed fingers and then simply opening and closing your hand - mind your face though - a thick one in the eye stings a bit Cheers - hope that helps - happy to help if i can...
  5. Hi - got a really cheeky request - i'm doing the RFS level 2 cert arb and as i am 'going it alone' i wondered if anyone had any old papers / old learning stuff they might be willing to let go?? My exam is not until Decemeber so no panic but i thought it might be worth an ask - any help would be a bonus. I only ask as none of the colleges are doing the 'old exam style' cert anymore and the ones online / distance could not even be bothered to return my calls! Cheers:thumbup:
  6. Hi, hope no one minds but i'd be happy to help anyone with a bit of general advice on this. I've been working in the fitness industry for a long time and spoken with loads of people about knees. Also done a lot of rehab work with clients and without doubt the best bit of advice i could give would be to get a cheap little book called 'Treat your own knees' by a guy called Jim Johnson Treat Your Own Knees: Simple Exercises to Build Strength, Flexibility, Responsiveness and Endurance [book] I found the book when i badly injured my own knee years ago - went through physios etc but did not really help - read this - followed the advice and can honestly say it now is sorted. I'd be happy to help anyone a bit more if it did not tread on anyones toes? Feel free to ask if so
  7. Hope nobody minds but i've been working in the fitness industry for more years than i care to remember and i've come across this problem quite a bit - just thought i'd pass on the link to these: Handmaster Plus : Handmaster : Fitness equipment, treadmills, rowing machines I'd go for the set of three but ONLY when your physio etc has said its ok - like i said no expert but have seen this injury a lot from all manner of people and these are the simplest (although not cheapest) way to move forward that i've found. Hope that helps and if i can help anymore just drop me a line
  8. Hi - just wondered if Yeti might want a little help with all the advice on this post? For far too many years i've been working in the fitness industry as a trainer etc and i'm re-training at the mo to hopefully start working in the arb business. If you'd like any help with all these questions i'd be happy to offer what i can - don't want to tread on anyones toes though - just thought you might be getting quite a few enquiries:biggrin:
