  1. I guess this for anyone who doesn't already use FR Jones... On site, milling, my 880 broke. Called em up, they told me what was wrong. Ordered the parts for me. Few days later, took it in, they did the work while I waited - despite what looked like being monster busy. Even when they couldn't get me on the phone cos of no signal, they walked around the street looking for me. They did a neat job on the saw & advised me that half my air filter was missing (thought it was getting dusty in there!) too. Best of all, cheap!! As a businessman, I understand the need for good feedback - keeps the new customers coming and the old ones coming back. Top Job, fellas Matt
  2. yep, that's going to take some sitting and looking at before I'd want to take a saw to it.. that second to last pic is lovely.. I'd cut a ring off that, polish it up and hang it in my own house..
  3. Hello Central-S.... I'm down in Port Talbot (jn40) over the weekend I think.. Would it be ok to come see sat / sun? I'm not looking for turning wood size bits.. eg, today I cut 4 1metre high x sq ft, nice forest oak - they will stay as that and become speaker stands... Most wood goes into furniture of some kind.
  4. that's a bit sexy that pic how much are per ft3 are you looking for that?
  5. Thanks for the reply, Rich. After, all sorts. It can depend. Some things I build stay outside, some in. I'm not just after the nice stuff like burr oak & black walnut - Ive about to make a table from a 5ft across Macracarpa. but, oak, spaulted woods, cherry, cedar & other softs, all sorts - it's more about what I have = what it gets used for. I've a kiln here. Some gets used green. Ive two great sources of wood (x boss and mates), where I can mill right next to where I park, but always on the lookout. And if it helps out some of the smaller getups to get it off site, and I get it cheaper - all the better. So if you have something you want off site....
  6. Thank you, Jonesie, you'll be hearing from me.
  7. Just buy the Alaskan. Brilliant.. stick it on your 880, chuck the lot on your shoulder and go walkabout. then get your mates to drag out your slabs with the forwarder
  8. This is probably geared towards the smaller arb setups out there who dont have the means to get bigger stuff off site....... In my years in arb, i've rung-up, chipped, wasted some lovely timber. Now i've quit climbing, but I'm still making stuff, & me and my 880 are looking for timber to mill, buy or just get off site, in the Kent / Surrey area. This wood is for my own use, "TrollSpiel fine furniture". Dont ring it up! Call the Troll. Short notice ok. Keep my number. 07944 111 000.
  9. Still, I don't wanna dance around the semantics of whether I NEED someone else to tweak my 880, I still WANT someone to, at I'm not talking a warm H/L/LA factory settings fiddle, I mean a proper saw tweaker/rebuilder. so, SE, London, Herts, essex....... appreciated. btw slasher, you got the forum social skills of a pile of dog crap up a dark alley
  10. Slasher...... Well I've been in this game 25 years too, and sure, I have had to tune my own saws throughout that time - goes with the job But I'm not a mech, and I know they can be really tarted up! - like any engine. And when you've spent 8hrs ripping, and your hands/forearms are numb, you too might want a revved up saw to get it done that little bit quicker.
  11. Does anyone know of a really good saw tuner in the south east? I've a pretty much new 880 from ebay that I use for only ripping, and I'd like it serviced, tuned up. Thank you (matt the ripper)
