  1. hi all, im looking to buy my first saw soon. im currently working in a factory as after leaving the army at the beginning of the year i could not find a job doing tree work so i dont have a huge budget so will have to be a second hand one! could anyone recomend a good saw for around £200? i know this is probably a big ask but.... i want it for general purpose work, mabye some climbing hopefully! thanks for any suggestions! Mick P.S if anyone knows of any jobs going in the south yorkshire area please let me know! Cheers again!!!
  2. Well found that man! ive just filled the application form in & just keeping my fingers crossed now. thanks for posting that! Mick
  3. thanks for all the advice, beginning to toy with the idea of going self employed now! think im gunna have to have a goosit down and think about it. over a pint probably! Cheers!! Mick
  4. cheers climber, ive sent letters to about 15 tree surgeons near me and two got in touch to say mabye, and one other said he didn't have anything. remainder didnt get back to me! im looking on here as another way of getting myself out there, advertising myself i suppose. lorry, i wouldn't feel comfortable going self employed just yet, having only just left the forces and never having to sort my own accounts, tax, invoices and such like is a bit daunting! mabye sometime in the future or i might just have to jump in at the deep end if i dont get any work for ages! thanks for the advice fellas, its always very much appreciated! Mick

  6. yes, im afraid its me again still looking for work in south yorkshire area! sticking up another post just in case... you never know! So......... I will no longer be getting paid from the Army after this month so if someone out there is considering taking someone else on then I would be happy to work some days until the end of january for nothing, on a trial basis!! I have CS30/31 LANTRA stumpgrinders & woodchippers. I have had practice and instruction for CS38/39 but have yet to take my assesment. I am a very hard working individual, being ex-military im still fit, will do as im told, impervious to most weather conditions and will not moan and groan! I have also had plenty of first aid practice in the Army (unfortunately the qualifications are now out of date, however im still confident in my first aid skills). thanks for reading! Mick
  7. hi all, im looking to take my 38/39 soon however I feel I need some more practice. The course I did was a combined CS30/31 and 38/39 however only 6 days of practice for 38/39 wasn't really enough. (or am i just being weak?) I understand hardly any employers will take someone climbing if they dont have a ticket, however I need practice to be able to pass the assesment. how did everyone else go about overcoming this? cheers, mick!
  8. depending on traffic, 30 minutes tops! thats rush hour time. quiter times of the day it would take me about 20 mins. i would certainly be willing to drive to sheffield for work.
  9. cheers geoff, just hoping someone will give me the chance to show them im willing to graft!

  14. thanks, I need all the luck I can get! and due to the fact I have been in far worse conditions than anything im likely to get myself into now, i'll have no reason to moan! thanks for the post!
  15. hi all, I have recently gained my CS30/31 and LANTRA use of stumpgrinders & woodchippers a part of my resettlement from the army. I have had instruction and practice for CS38/39 and I have an assesment paid for to take at time of my choice. I would appreciate all work, anything from the odd day fetching and carrying to full time employment. Being ex army and 24 years old I am pretty fit, hardworking, will not moan and groan and I am used to working outdoors in all weather conditions. cheers for reading! Mick Flanagan
  16. hi, my name's mick and I have recently gained my CS30/31 and LANTRA CERT - use of stumpgrinders and use of wood chippers. I did this as part of my resettlement from the Army. I have climbed whilst doing my resettlement course, which was down in Kent, however didn't feel quite ready to take the CS38/39 assesment. So I am offering to work for someone in exchange for some climbing practice. I understand not many people will want an inexperienced climber hindering their work, however I would very much appreciate the chance to gain my CS38/39 as the assesment has already been paid for by the Army. As I said I am willing to work for free, doing anything that may be required. Being an ex soldier and 24 years old, I am hard working and will not complain about the job, weather, being tired, hungry etc! I live in Wath-Upon-Dearne in Rotherham, and I would be willing to travel a reasonable distance. Thanks for reading this and I very much hope to hear from someone soon! mick

  18. My name is Mick Flanagan and I have just served 8 years in the British Army (Light Infantry / Rifles) Ii am currently down in Kent doing a Combined Arboricultural course with Kingswood Training. I have already got my CS30/31 and LANTRA CERT - use of stumpgrinders. I begin my CS38/39 this week with a view to getting assesed on the 18th, also fitting in some time with the wood chipper. I will be available for work from the second week in January, however i have to return to my battalion (based in edinburgh) for one day to have my final medical. I understand that I have no experience as such, however 8 years in the infantry has made me very hard working, will not moad and groan, will not ask questions and can be trusted to get on with whatever i have been instructed to do. I am also impervious to almost any weather condition! I would welcome any work from one day fetching and carrying to permanant employment and the opportunity to gain some valuable experience. thanks for taking time to read this post and I very much hope to hear from any employers who need some extra help. Mick
